thats an awful story... RIP to the kid... and why in the hell would they not use a snakeshot style round to kill a snake... its basically a standard bullet casing but instead of a solid bullet projectile it uses shot pellets or bb's like a shot gun only smaller in size would have been perfect they dont have long range and expand very rapidly and are used to kill small game and snakes at close range... why would the officer attempt to shoot his service weapon with a greater range and inaccuracy for the instance needed...? and firing without knowing his backdrop and potential bystandards... just sounds like he didnt think before his actions... i hope that the department learns from this mistake that the officer made... oh and thanks for the banning this guy had it coming...

Sounds like a biff with a big maglite could have killed that "dangerous" snake. I saw an episode on cops one time with a hysterical woman who called because a snake was on her house. The stupid ass cops that responded were too scared of the snake, so they called their supervisor. Their supervisor walked right up to the snake and killed it with his baton.

Why was he trying to shoot it again?

Try that with a copperhead or water moccassin and see what happens. I am not sure what kind of snake that was though. I carry snake shot for my .38 backup gun and if I have to shot at one I will use that. Animal control isn't part of law enforcement so if I can't shoot it safely I advise them to call the people that deal with animals, like the state wildlife resource agency.

We have a lot of snakes in the south and I have learned one thing about them, if they are not an aggressive breed...let them be and they will slither off on their own. They are just as scared about humans as humans are with them.

Very very true about if they are not agressive, but a copperhead or a water moccassin will come after your ass if you mess with them.

Thats a crock of shit as well..........there has been numerous studies on North American poisonous snakes and not a single one of them shows any snake as an "aggressive" attacker.

Most every snake that dwells on our planet would rather escape than have to deal with you. Only after you give them no choice do they choose to attempt a bite.

I mean why should the snake risk breaking a fang, losing its precious venom only to hurt you for fun?

In any case, the cop should have known better............The first rule of shooting your weapon is "always know your target and what is behind it"
