These kinds of things are contrary to where we should be.
Agreed.

:

I have explained the situation to people when I am forced to do this silly stuff and for the most part, they are cool with me about it...even when I have had to arrest people on technicalities. I can't give people legal advice on the scene but in the idle chit chat I can say what I would do in the same siutation (hint, hint, nudge, nudge)

I agree with ya man! Twice a year we get new laws and updates to older laws given to us and you should see the looks on the officer's faces sitting around reading them. More than once I have looked at my Sgt. and said "what the fuck?? they seriously want me to enforce this???"

This is an inherent problem with having full time legislators; they justify their existience by finding (or creating) things to legislate. Most places would be *much* better off with part-time legislators. One of the ways New Hampshire has maintained a relatively high level of freedom is by having the state House meet only 2 weeks per year, and paying them only $100 per year. Limits the damage, and makes it not attractive/rewarding enough to the power-hungry.

We know, man.

[edit] It just gets lost in discussion cuz you're "the man." Not the good "the man" but the bad "the man."

Not to get off topic, but Phil, the NH constitution looks pretty nice. I read a little bit earlier today. I was gonna ask you how far from their constitution are they, but if they're only allowed two weeks a year I imagine they are on target.

And I agree 100% that if legislation wasn't a fulltime job we wouldn't have all the bullshit that we do and I could buy my DPMS .308 here and now.

They're not perfect, but they're better than most places. And the FSP aims to bring the state back into *full* compliance with its own Constitution, as well as with the U.S. Constitution.
