They should have said that they didn't have ID, not refused to show ID. How can one be arrested for simply losing their ID? This is a very huge over reaction on that deputies part. We are becoming more and more of a police state. And if anybody, including a police officer, breaks into my home without a warrant they will be met with force.

i'm sure this story is 100% accurate and unbiased.

Of course there's some journalistic discretion at work here, but regardless: An officer entered a house without a warrant, in which he smashed a window and fubar'd a door.
You obviously don't have the right to hang a flag upside down where they live. It stated that in the article posted. AGAIN, that is not something to be taken up with a cop. He is just a crony, enforcing the law. When a cop tells someone to do something, they expect them to do it. What would you have done if you were that cop and your boss told you to go get the flag taken down. You show up, the people are being assholes, and tell you to go fuck yourself when you ask for ID, then run inside the house? They removed the need for a warrant right there. Now he has probable cause to enter the home. Sorry if you don't like it, but that is the way it is. So I would suggest that you pull your head out of your ass, and wake up.
You're not legally bound to give ID unless you're being charged/placed under arrest. But hey, what does that matter here anyhow? The guy in this prank http://www.improveverywhere.com/2006/04/23/best-buy/ knows that, why don't you?
Actually, he had to probably cause because they complied when he asked them to take down the flag. That was the nature of the allegation, and being dealt with, there was no longer an official problem.
And another thing: Hanging a flag upside down, as said about 38 times, is a signal of distress, NOT desecration.

Under a rarely enforced state statute, it is a misdemeanor to desecrate {the flag of the US or NC}...
...flag covered our whole front porch; he comes up with this printout about the law and tells us that we can’t attach things to the flag, that we’re desecrating it,” Deborah Kuhn said.
the law there in the article stated, it was illegal to descrete the flag, not to hang it improperly. I see reading comprehension is beyond some people.

Please tell me you meant probable cause and not probably cause!

Wrong.

It doesn't matter what a LEO 'expects', it matters what the law is. If he can't interpret the law properly, then he needs to seek a new profession.

Gee... Hard to think of any other possible alternatives
*Leave
*Knock again, and patiently explain the situation
*Issue a citation to them in the mail, if what they were doing ACTUALLY was a misdemeanor
*Dismantle the flag and fold it up for them
*Dismantle the flag and hang it properly
*Dismantle the flag and admit it to evidence
*Get on the radio and ask if smashing in the door and assaulting the couple is OK
It doesn't take much creativity... The asshole officer was definately looking for some action.

What demented world do you live in, where warrants are issued on the basis of "Did someone just go inside and lock the door? BINGO!"? Do you know anything about warrants? What probable cause does he have? Nobody was under arrest, no evidence was presented that suggests that the couple may have been doing ANYTHING illegal in their home.

That's really not the way it is, only the way you wish it was.
Meh, I didn't make anyone up. There are fanboys around that are either cops, relatives of cops, or friends of cops, and they usually band together in support of cops just like 750rider does not support cops. I don't need to see one actually shut down, because there's threats to shut it down in most cases, and I don't need it to go there.
I'd note, that it wasn't just the Kuhn's account, but multiple neighbors as well.

PRODUCE A THREAD THAT HAS BEEN CLOSED, THAT WAS ABOUT COPS, IN THIS SECTION.
It's simple, genius, prove your limp words.
Otherwise, quit the lying and proceed with your topic.
As far as the Kuhn's account, it's their account. I only stated the obvious that if it's true, then the cop was wrong. Is there something wrong with that statement?
Hanging the flag upside down is NOT in and of itself desecration. If displayed upside down it should be as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. This would be open to debate and most likely covered under the 1st Amendment in this case.
Although the flag was not displayed properly the way it was attached to the house, it does not consitute desecration, simply improper display.
As for the attachment affixed to the flag - according to the Flag Code: "The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature."
