The thing most pro-gun/anti gun control people ignore, is that these guns used by criminals COME FROM SOMEWHERE.
Crooked dealers and street sources. The family gun store I do most of my purchasing in does a background check everytime I buy a gun.

Most people that would fail a background check DO NOT GET THEIR FIREARMS FROM A FFL DEALER. We should have mandatory background checks for buying alcohol. If you have ever been convicted of a vehicle moving violation, you are more likely to drive while intoxicated. Think of the lives that could be saved, while those of us who have never broken a traffic law could still buy our alcohol freely! Wait, I have gotten a few tickets.....DAMN!

Once again, you're completely ignoring the meaning of anything written, spouting off whatever you want.
So why does the source need to be kept secret again?
Because other than the standard party lines about oppressive governments and invading aliens (okay, I made that one up), they haven't got a leg to stand on in the face of today's global realities, so the less information they give out about sources, the easier it is to avoid intelligent debate.
