WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Seventeen Republicans joined Democrats on Friday in passing a two-sentence resolution denouncing President Bush's plan to boost troop levels in Iraq.
The resolution passed easily, 246-182.
Democratic leaders on Saturday will attempt to bring the same measure to the floor in the Senate. (Full story)
Democrats hailed the victory, while outside the chamber, Republican congressional leadership blasted the resolution, calling it the first step toward de-funding the war.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, said the passage of the non-binding resolution "should send a very clear and firm message to the president of the United States: that the American people spoke in November, that they wanted a new direction in Iraq. This resolution today sets the stage for that new direction," she said. (Watch Speaker Pelosi say the resolution marks a "new direction" in Iraq )
Now, will the Senate follow?

doesn't matter. this surge of bush's is the last bite at the apple that he's going to get. let him have it. whether it works or not, people will be getting serious about withdrawal soon.
shoulda given it to 'em. let's make it harder, not easier for soldiers to do their jobs, right?...the more troops, the faster we can finish this. i have a strong feeling many black ops are being planned and set into motion on a very large scale.

Tell you what. I will agree with you just as soon as you can define what "finished" means in Iraq. What is the mission, and how will more troops further that mission?

i'll bite. stability in iraq is the ultimate goal. personally i think we need to be attacked by iran clearly and openly and very publicly so that we can stomp those fuggers into the sand. if syria, turkey or anyone else wants a piece, bring it. these problems won't go away anytime soon and these jihadists only get braver the longer the political red tape drags things out, so why not face things head on?
