I'm a self-diagnosed "off" switcher. How do you get buy-in from the wife and kids. I find it very difficult to implement at home or work.

Give up. They're hopeless. But its another good reason to switch to florescents. My results were without any buy in from the Fam.

Of course, I do spend a lot of time lapping the house and turning things off.

Good idea. I didn't know that the energy savings associated with florescents were so dramatic compared to their incandescent counterparts.

Good things about the CF bulbs:

- last a long time
- energy efficient (duh)
- the whiter light looks better

Bad things:

- still inconclusive evidence on fluorescent effect on humans
- takes a while to "heat up" to brightness
- color temperature changes over time, even though it's not noticeable (gradual change) until you change the bulb
- high initial cost
- spiral type don't fit in all fixtures due to size difference

cost per bulb generally is a wash after changing incandescents so often
