Designating specified firearms as assault weapons; prohibiting with specified exceptions a person from transporting an assault weapon into the State or possessing, selling, offering to sell, transferring, or receiving an assault weapon; requiring the Handgun Roster Board to compile and maintain a roster of prohibited assault weapons; etc.
Hope you all fall under the mysterious 'under certain circumstances' clause.
RKBA means nothing in the Peoples Republic of Maryland. If you have an evil 'assault weapon' you may be selling soon, or turning them in. If you voted for any of the bill's sponsors, then you got what you had coming to you.

Unbelievable!!!!
I have never nor will I ever register my weapons. Going to the Sheriffs office to get a permit was enough and I no longer have to do that anymore.
I'm saying it is merely a bill that has been filed. It's a long way from ever seeing the light of day. I'll bet anyone $50 that this never gets out of committee, just like most of the bills that are filed every session.
Think of this as the equivalent of the flag-burning amendment in Congress. Its been filed to please a constituency without any expectation that it would become law.
So who here holds assault weapons as a "right dear?" Interesting passion. And while you're at it, do you agree or disagree with the provision that tacks 20 years onto the sentence of anyone who uses one to commit a felony.

Just wondering...
Well knowing how certain towns /states /people are influenced... Just before the bill is heard by the comitee , somebody uses an assault weapon to kill a child/cop/drug dealer and the media gets ahold of it and plasters it all over the news, well with emotions running high the bill would have a chance at getting passed.
I myself dont like anti gun laws or people who say " Guns Kill" because a Gun is a tool and it needs someone to use it to make it work so its the user/operator that kills not the gun..
Everything has to be done, except the governor's signature, by April 9 and this bill will be competing with about 2,400 others in addition to all the state agency budgets. There are about 220 legislators all together, each fighting for their own bills. This one has very few sponsors, basically just the Baltimore City legislators.
The bet stands if anyone wants to take me up on it.

I saying that an elected official that even puts pen to paper to suggest the limiting of the rights of any citizen should be thrown out of office. That includes ALL rights, even the right of free speech.

I don't know cupcake, what do you consider an 'assault rifle'? I don't care if they use an AR-15 or a Brown Bess. Throw them in jail. To tack on some meaningless addition to the sentence for using an 'assault weapon' is about as stupid as tacking on extra time on a murder charge because it was a 'hate crime'.

Well, the specific weapons are named in the bill, so that's what I was referring to. Guess you didn't read it.
So if I understand you correctly, you're against additional sentencing for criminals who use assault weapons in the commission of felonies, right?
Glad you're willing to include free speech as something almost as important as free guns. It's been a damn sight more valuable. So where do you stand on privacy and due process. Might be a good time to speak up for those Rights, since they're now gone.
Oh, it's probably worth mentioning that these legislators were excercising both free speech and the right to petition the government when they wrote this bill. Given your mention of the specific right, that would put you both for and against it, right?
Actually, my only original point was "ain't gonna happen."

I say yes..............the addition of 20 years to a sentence for using an assault weapon is stupid.
Are you telling me that a 9mm bullet kills less than a .223? Thats just rediculous.
While it may not see the light of day lets not forget that San Fransisco has indeed taken the 2nd ammendment from its citizens.
Who is to say that they dont keep whittling it down until the only thing you can own or operate is a black powder ball gun? What good is that against a simple semi auto handgun?

The concept of an "assault weapon crime" is as bullshit as that of a "hate crime." A crime is a crime.
Further, the legal definition of an "assault rifle" is bullshit. They make it up based on whatever guns they want to ban. Semi-auto rifles are not "assault rifles," but anti-gun legislators would tell you they are because the term is menacing and scary, and it's easier to sell a ban that way.
Jim - you say "ain't gonna happen." That makes me happy
