saddam & our govt
I was watchin a video about saddam and it said that the U.S. SUPPORTED his corrupt ass up until about 1990. Then he somehow started fucking with the oil over there and next thing you know we`re at war with his country.. this is why I have no trust in our government and political b.s.!!

Supported and armed him. There's a high liklihood that the chemical weapons he used on the Iranians were supplied by us.

Yeah, we supported Iraq for a bit, but we also sold weapons to Iran via Israel. Very funny times.

Dude you're 31 and just found that out?
It's not exactly a big secret. We helped his regime out to offset the iranian threat (they had already held our people hostage and were the world leaders in terrorism). But Saddam got stupid, used Chem weapons and we washed our hands of him.
Not surprisingly after that an Iraqi Exocet missile (bought from the french) slammed into the USS Stark, killing several sailors.
The left wingers would like you think it was far more cozy than it was. We also invented Al Queda to a degree. We taught the afghani's how to fight the Russians and now they use it against us.
It's called Backlash. It happens. Look, we supported France in the 40's and they have been nothing but dead weight since, working against the people they owe their existence to. We invented the UN and allowed other countries to partake and they use it to gang up on the very country that put them in a position of power to begin with.
Backlash happens. Had Hitler not antagonized the jews Germany would have had the atomic bomb long before we did. They came here and worked for us. Hitler's Backlash was our benefit.
Just in case other stuff has slipped by you, you do know that the entire space program was made up of ex-nazi scientists like Werner Von Braun, right?
In Iraq we tried to not do this....but in totally dismantling the Baathist party we left ourselves without any sort of infra-structure in Iraq. Backlash works both ways. Damned if ya do and damned if ya dont. Do you give a pass to torturers and murderers or do you force yourself to start from scratch in building a country?
So before you go jumping all over us being buddies with bad guys, remember that is a matter of perspective. We called Stalin an ally against the nazi's. He killed far more people than Hitler ever did. Are we now going to second guess waging a war on Nazi's?
History is never so black and white as you'd like to think.

I'm always amused when people compare things like the Iran-Iraq war to World War II.

Another stunning decision made by the good folks at the Republican party. Let's arm Saddam to start an unwinnable war against his neighbor and THEN attack him for his threat to the U.S..
Yep, just like when we "won" the cold war against the evil communists and then proceed to bolster the largest communist nation's economy by borrowing money from them at a record pace. The logic is strong with that group.

Its simply an attempt to elevate the status of the invasion of Iraq. There is no valid comparison.

Wht not arm saddam in the 90's. Why would we have had a reason to fear him or know what he would turn to do?

I have no idea of anything he did. I was basing it off of this comment. With that being saying a corrupt person usaully does something that doesnt fair well with others.
I did see the same special this person id refering too. Anyhow i am just getting that our gov gave items to Saddam b/c he had things we wanted. As "friends" you barter for what is in your best interest. If your friend screws you, you tend not to just sit back and let it play out

The atrocities he committed (and was killed for) were done before the 90s. Who he was was no secret when we were supporting him.
