Default Spike Lee pisses me off, again

Now, I'm not a fan of Spike Lee's work, but....

I saw his documentary on Hurricane Katrina and how it was handled and I have to say, what a total clusterfuck that was. The federal government should be seriously taken to task for that debacle. There response was and is awful. The blame that was being thrown around and still is, is fucking despicable.

Not to mention that all of the bullshit rumors that flew around and are still being shit out.

If you truly give a shit about your fellow Americans, this should piss you off to your core.

I'm guessing you don't have a link to it but I can imagine a lot of comments about how it affected the black population there and how it was all Bush's fault. That's just a guess though

Spike Lee got me more pissed off about Katrina. Since I am relying on news reports, I didn't get the whole picture.

I was way pissed off when it happened, gave money to support the relief. The things I saw were worse than I had imagined, and that was after 6-10 months after it.

To see GW commemorate it, after doing NOTHING to help during the disaster must be a kick in the teeth for the victims.

A year has past and not much has been done.

No, there was visual evidence of what happened. The commentary wasn't the whole thing.

There were white people on there as well, since you try to put Americans into categories of black and white.

I just thought all Americans deserve help. Silly me.

And yes, I often don't like Spike Lee's stuff because often a racial group gets blamed for the issue in the film, white, black, latin, whomever.

This one was compelling and accomplished it's job, it was upsetting to see Americans treated this way.

I refuse to sympathize for the rescue efforts.. They were told a week in advance of the hurricane, and they were put under a Mandatory evacuation order 3 days before it hit... The retards that voluntarily stayed deserved what they got...

However, FEMA made a total cluster fuck of the aftermath.. Ordering several million dollars of trailers to house refugees, and now they are mostly rotting in Kansas and Arkansas, because FEMA's own rules wont let them use them in a flood area...
It wasnt a black/white tragedy.. I will never buy into that, because Hurricanes do NOT discriminate.. Spike Lee has about as much credibility as Farrakhan or Kanye West...

First off, NOT EVERYONE HAD THE MEANS TO GET OUT.

Secondly, The levees that were built by a FEDERAL ENTITY were supposed to hold up to a cat 3. They failed miserably and if you read the Army Corps of Engineers report, they took blame.

Third, I agree with Kanye West. If it were in the FL Keys, the response would have been different. Your reaction to it speaks volumes.

As to you assertion that Hurricanes don't discriminate, that's so myopic. Who said the hurricanes targeted black people? The tragedy is the response. There have been admitted failures and, to me, if you don't see this, you're a typical solipsist who can't imagine the country beyond the end of their own nose.

Of course, if any of this happened to you (and don't say it wouldn't because we all know that would be total bullshit. Weather and natural disaster can strike anywhere and at any time) you'd be crying like a baby for a helping hand and, as any American should, you should get one.

You are wrong...

Instead of letting hundreds of school buses be swamped and ruined sitting in parking lots...They could have been used to evacuate "people who had no means" hours before the storm hit...instead they sat ruined

Those levees were built decades ago...and I'll bet both the City and the State have spent millions if not billions of federal dollars in "maintenance" ie...political plum jobs, over the years...

The keys were hit, but Jeb Bush has Florida's Emergency Management System being run by competent people who would have handled the first responders differently and would have coordinated with FEMA more effectively...Proof is they have over the last 4 years. I can't believe no one in the city of New Orleans had a satellite telephone...

As for "if it happens to you" It has...We lost everything in the Countrywalk Subdivision near Homestead when a storm named Andrew came calling...I mean everything...when we came back, (We didn't have the means, but we got out) our house wasn't damaged...it was gone...everything gone...only a storm washed concrete slab was left behind...we lost EVERYTHING, never to be seen or found again.

Guess what? we didn't have all these charities running around passing out money...we didn't get prepaid VISA cards...WE, the neighborhood, rallied and took careof our own...and by the way...it took more than 5 years to rebuild that neighborhood...

The lesson I learned, and you should too, is that the government, at any level...cannot...will not be responsible, or take care of you and your family. That is your responsiblity. If/when a storm hit me again...I have portable power, food, shelter and a way to make clean water. I can take care of my family for at least 20 days...if I don't see another person or aid.

You see...It is my responsibility to care for my family...

I don't remember what Katrina was when it made landfall, but at one point it's wind speeds were 175mph out in the gulf on it's way to NO....thats just slightly stronger than a cat 3 that the levees where designed for dontcha think? Lets see....levees designed for cat 3...this storm barrelling in at us a cat 5+...hmmm...yeah they'll hold and we'll stay.
