Ever wonder how easy it is to make liquid explosives?
We've all heard the latest example of Government scare-mongering about liquid explosives. Now we arent allowed to bring any liquid on a plane, because of how easy it is to mix a liquid explosive up.
The picture presented to us is that you bring a couple household chemicals on a plane, place them in a bottle, shake them up, and ignite it. BOOM, massive explosion... Well, here's the truth.
To make the SIMPLEST liquid explosive, you need three things. Peroxide, Acetone, and Sulfuic Acid.
The Peroxide is NOT the stuff you have in your bathroom. That stuff is weak, like .5% or something (not real sure of exact concentration). You will need chemical grade peroxide, above 90% for this to explode. And its already a listed material, so you cant get any. And it smells.. BADLY.
Acetone is pretty damn easy to get. And Sulfuric Acid isnt very hard either, so we can assume you have those.
Once you have all three ingredients, you can mix the Peroxide and Acetone easily, but you will need to add the sulfuric acid drop by drop so it doesnt explode in your face, but weakly. And you will need to keep the solution cold, or it will explode in your face, but again, very weakly. And then you need to let it sit for a couple hours, or it will explode in your face weakly. Keep in mind that this chemical reaction releases VERY noxious gasses, and needs to be measured exactly, or it wont work.
No imagine doing all this on an enclosed plane. Kind of hard to hide the droppers, measuring cups, and fumes.
Its not the kill everyone easy method the GOV tells you.
You would be better off trying to kill people by making mustard gas, by combinging Ammonia and Bleach. At least that is quick to make.

Doesnt ammonia and bleach make chlorine gas? Super fatal in a tiny dose?
I was pretty sure thats the mix for it.
At least you know this whole thing is about fear mongering. Its funny how right before elections, we have another terrorist plot and the SUPER POLICE aka republicans are our saviors................gimme a fucking break.
I seriously have to wonder if I need to just spend the money on a pilots license and just rent a plane to get across country quickly.

Very simplified view you've shown there. There's more to this than you've indicated.
Peroxide-based liquid explosives such as triacetone triperoxide (TATP) or hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD) can be used to produce improvised detonators as well as main explosives.
Richard Reid, the shoe bomber tried this tactic. It doesn't matter how dangerous it is to the on board bomb maker. He/she wants to die anyway.
And it doesn't even have to be a large catastrophic explosion. Attacking several airliners simultaneously in this manner would cause ALL domestic and international air travel to be shut down for some time.
9/11 grounded US bound planes for what, at least a week? Imagine what this British/international plot would've done.
What if there's a plan 'B'?

yes, the plan could ground the aircraft, but it takes a decently large bomb to bring down an aircraft. Even the shoe bombers bomb wouldnt have brought down that plane. Depressurize it, yes, maybe kill a few around him, but the plane is structurally able to stand a hell of a lot.

It only takes a decent sized fire in the cabin over the ocean to cause casualties in the air. Multiply that times 10 or so, and you have your calamity.

And also there's the chance of the fire to grow out of control.
