I liked it. With the way freedoms are eroding in the name of "safety," I don't see it as too farfetched, either.

somewhat, with our current government and with the publics very short attention span I doubt anything like that will happen in the near future.

The reason I said this is that earlier some people posted about it being too political and some of them were gun advocates.

Now, my idea of the "well armed militia" is to prevent a government from becoming too powerful. The central idea of the film is that a government should fear it's people.

These viewpoints seemed diametrically opposed.

This is not a gun rights viewpoint, just wondering how one could reconcile with the other.

I absolutely loved that movie....

I had an interesting exchange with my g/f too surrounding the movie and the books "Anthem" and "Brave New World"

She said that she thought it was so far fetched that the government would have so much control over the people... She mentioned the part about the virus being released and how the people put 110% faith in the government that people woudl never be so foolish to allow that to happen.

About a week later the thing happened with the "terrrorists" in the UK and how ALL carry ons are banned...

She said how she thought the government really needed to protect us and if that is how we are protected (by not being able to bring ANYTHING on a flight) or anything similar that it was totally worth it because the world is really scary (almost repeated verbatim)

when she finished, and during, i was literally speechless... i said THAT... THAT is EXACTLY how it happens!!!! you just spoke, from your own mouth, the architecture that allows the government to control the people!!!

i was completely astonished by what she said and how she had no idea how she even felt until i pointed out the parallels...

it was eye opening to say the least...

On a side note-- her father writes business articles for the WSJ and is a professor at a college here... he was so scared of the situation that he chose to drive to atlanta (at his cost) vs taking the plane ticket that was paid for (he was going to a business meeting, speech i think)....
I told her that he is way smarter than the average american, and if he is that brainwashed what hope do we have?? and how many people are just like him?

scary

V absolutely had the right idea. That movie is a warning of what is coming up, and soon. And for hanglowejohnson, I feel you. I had almost that EXACT conversation with my wifes whole family, only they didnt see the problem with it even when it was pointed out what they just said.

I loved the movie. Thought it was probably the greatest I've seen in a year or more. A government SHOULD be afraid of it's people, if we truly are a government of and for the people. Those in office should be afraid to lose their jobs if they don't do them well enough. I think we need to hold our elected officials to task, to that extent at the bare minimum. I wish the media did a better job of this. To that end, it made me nostalgic for a couple of bygone eras: the American Revolution, where people stood up to and eventually overthrew their government in the name of freedom, and the days of muckraking journalism, not the b.s. we have now where we find out such groundbreaking scandals as which restaurants aren't up to code. That movie took me back to the days of college where I wanted to be Nelly Bly. It was inspiring.

Great movie, excellent story. Hugo Weaving is a fantastic orator.

It should be the new shining example of Libertarianism.

The single thing I did not like about the story is V's intentions. As an amnesiac, he's only truly out for vengeance - why the freedom fighter gig? Just a convenient effect of his actions? Why would he even fight for that, if he can't even remember who he is? How does he remember that people ever had freedom to begin with?

If V was truly a freedom idealist, I'm not positive he'd have rescued everyone from their situation as it was. It could be pretty much summed up with Benjamin Franklin's quote: "Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither."

I've ordered the graphic novel in hopes that it has more answers It's on it's way!

I think it's a movie that blurs our strict conservative/liberal lines into a common theme of government by the people, for the people.

Great movie with a solid message. The government needs to fear the PEOPLE.

Before our current situation occurred, I was more of a conservative. Since, I've gained more doubt, more insecurity, and more ambiguousness (if thats a word) from our government, the body that is supposed to protect it's people. Ironic in itself that my gov't scares me more than terrorists do. Just my 2 cents but whatever.

A "well armed militia" only works if the government's military is on your side. If all the politicians have to do is call on the military to protect them whenever a bunch of civilians with guns come to throw them out of office, then having a militia doesn't do you much good. Don't get me wrong, I believe in people's right to organize their owned armed defense, but that just the reality.
