Starts out as them putting a camera and a radar gun in a white van in school zones. Passing out tickets like fuck. I guess they got a couple thousand speeders.

Turns out its a great way to make money, they have decided to go right on ahead and start putting them in random location whenever they choose.

Neighborhood streets
The FREEWAY
whatever they want really.

the kicker you ask? 1-10 mph over.........equals 100-400 in fines.

Im going WTF??? over here. There has to be something constitutionaly illegal about this shit.

Sounds like a cause for the ACLU. They prolly won't take this one up tho, they're too busy telling students that they can't mention god in their graduation speeches.

I think there is something illegal. We have those damn cameras everywhere. Paid to put them up at intersections etc. But now they're not active. I heard about the same thing happening in Greensboro NC I wish I could remember what the deal was but it's been a long time...

Neighborhood streets and school zones I can actually agree with, nobody should be zippin' through there. There are 2 motorcycle cops in the area I work, and a school on my test-drive route. The cops regularly run laser in the school zone when the yellow lights are flashing.
I dislike state-funded revenue generation as much as anybody, but when there are kids around, you shouldn't be speeding. Kids do stupid shit all the time, like chase each other around.

Okay, let me clarify my position.............

Put them in school zones. Hell hire some more cops to protect school zones. Kids deserve to be protected.

But if you think Im gonna be alright with it being on any street at any given time, FUCK THAT.

This is bullshit and when I figure out how to tear at the belly of the nazi esque money generating program I will.

They better hope I never get a fucking speeding ticket for 1-5 over and a hundred bucks or better.

There are many ways of getting out of a photo ticket. The biggest being never to admit you got it. They send it through the mail...hence there is no "arresting officer", if you didn't recieve it...no problem. My wife's car is in my name, mine is in hers.

I agree though..there is something very "Big Brotherish" about photo radar. And then Scottsdale put up those speed cameras on the freeway. They don't even have jurisdiction of the freeway, Highway Patrol does. Where they even came up with that idea is insane. There was supposed to be a law passed by the State getting those yanked...I am not sure if it passed. Can you imagine the implications with that? Let's just line the Freeways with cameras...or better yet, rig up everyone's nav system to automatically kick out a ticket if you go over the speed limit.

Oh, and most photoradar systems are set for 5-10 MPH over.

Red light cameras at intersections i have no problems with. If people run red lights, they deserve whatever they get. It's dangerous and i almost lost my life to some fuck who can't tell red from green.

But automatic cameras for speeding?!? Just look at how well that went over in England... the people there feel opressed as hell about it!

It's just the first step toward having fucking GPS installed in every car that monitors your speed and will bill your bank account per mile over the speed limit...

It's a HUGE pain in the ass.... people shouldn't have to live in fear of getting a speeding ticket... it's a huge hit to the morale of the people.

I see it as the same thing as stepped up security at the airport.... no majoe events for 80 years, then ONE thing happens and we go apeshit and make air travel a horrible experience... you can't even meet friends at the gate or wait with them anymore...

My sympathies to anyone who was hurt by 9/11, or anyone who lost someone.... but if a few thousand people dying every few decades is the price to pay for a sense of freedom... i'd gladly pay the price... even if it was my own family.

@hybrid: agreed, i was just lookin for a simple solution. these systems are common in SE Asia, but they make camera detectors as well (not that it does much good on 2 wheels).

Bullshit. I can understand in areas with higher accident possibility, like blind intersections or busy areas, but not on the freeway in the middle of the day.
