The Middle East under the past few Presidents has slowly been marching toward peace. Now it seems to be sliding backwards at an alarming rate and Condoleeza seems to be applying grease to that slope and giving a huge shove.

So as I was saying...Yes, Roiling mess...Iraq is falling into Civil War and George Bush doesn't have a clue what to do about it. "You break it you buy it"
Palestine is now being run by a known Terrorist Organization with the ultimate goal of the destruction of Israel. And the rest of the World is telling us they don't care and we need to accept "The Democratic Process"
Iran is processing Uranium with the most likely intent of building a Nuclear Device.
Do I really need to go on? Wake up and smell the burning oil, Son!

By the way, stay on track?? You are the one who brought up the Cosmos and George Bush's place in it...which seems to be all about Chaos.

Wow, simple question concerning Port authority and it roils down to Republicans vs. Democrats...who'd a thunk it???

Is Iraq going towards a civil war? Maybe, maybe not. A couple of fundamentalist wackjobs plant a few bombs in a Shiite shrine and attempt to blow it up in order to sow discord. Which it has done. Civil war isn't being caused by the vast majority of folks; more a select guerilla force doing things by the book. Part of the outrage and vocalization you're seeing is typical Arab behavior. This is how they react. Every time an Israeli Kidon team offs a senior Hamas official, the streets are filled with crying people, burning flags, and a load of AKs. A few days later it dies down until they find something else to be pissed about. I guess we'll see how it pans out in Iraq then deal with the aftermath. And to be honest, you're witnessing not only a regime change in Iraq, but a cultural and religious shift for this culture. You're attempting to change peoples' culture, and your making some people in positions of power vary nervous about losing their own (Bashar Assad in Syria is one definite candidate off the top of my head). Predicting anything with regards to this situation is extremely difficult, even for people who have studied the culture.

Palestine was governed by a terrorist group; it just changed hands to another faction. Fatah, under Arafat in the 70's, was militant just like Hamas. Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade is a current offshoot of Fatah, not Hamas. And yes, a large proportion of the suicide bombers in Palestine are from Al Aqsa. The flag & scarf colors may have changed, but the desire to eradicate Israel and the hatred for anything US (other than the money we give them) is still there. As to the Middle East moving towards peace in the past decade or two, that hasn't happened. Carter had Beirut & Qadafi, Reagan had Beirut & Qadafi along with an Iraq-Iran war (which we were only indirectly involved in), GHW Bush had Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, Clinton couldn't get Israel and Palestine to agree for very long on much of anything thanks to the suicide bomber vs. Israeli hit team confrontations, and Bush has his problems with Iraq/Afghanistan. Areas of the Middle East roll in and out of peaceful situations and have for years. Hell, go back to the 60s and you have Israel against the Arab Nations (now THAT was an ass kicking...reminiscient of Gulf War I).

I am awake. The Middle East is just as nutty as ever...only the players have changed. We just have to figure out a way to deal with the issues and come out on top.

So you are not down at all seeing young Americans getting blown to pieces for a gamble that George Bush took???

Triple Z is putting up some really good facts about the situation but I am not convinced. I believe that George Bush is more interested in lining his and his cronies pockets than he is in the American People.
And I'm not moving becuase America is still the greatest Country in the World and I enjoy life here. However, I can still complain when inept, greedy, manipulative liars are running it.

You are lucky. These foolish thoughts are coming from someone educated during the glorious Clinton years. Wait until you have to hear all of the uneducated foolish thoughts that will come after this Administration crushes all Educational Aid and College becomes unobtainable for a lot of Americans.
Now that's when the party will start.

Here is a story that may make you wonder what relation it has to sale of American ports to Arab companies, all that needs to be understood that massive interest payments on US national debt has to be paid to the bankers. Our taxes are not enough to cover this, although moves are surely being made to increase taxes to astronomical levels for the average wage earner so the money creators can feed at the public trough. But mostly this will be done by firesaling US assets. Sell off of public lands, sell off of ports and US national assets. It must be bonanza to be a central banker, creating debt out of thin air, selling it to the US government, then demanding the principal back with interest on top. Imagine sitting at your computer and creating money by tapping out numerical digits. Everyone complains about the welfare mothers and their car load of kids leeching off the system; well that's just a dinky little drop in the bucket compared to what these fat cats have stolen from the public with their fictitous debt, and continue to steal every single day.
