What is the difference between allthe normal religions. Mormon, johava, baptist, catholic....etc. What is the difference? Me and my room mate had a chat about this and he is a hardcore christian.

They all believe that their own religion is the way to heaven........
Here is the common denominator...........they are all organized groups of people that want you to believe that someone who is invisible and omnipotent but yet unwilling to help his children, is ready to punish anyone that doesnt believe in him.
How sweet is that? A select group of people control the sheep with fear of a non existant entity? Sign me up!

*cough*.... sorry. It gets away from me sometimes. I was raised a roman catholic. Apparrently they are the only ones that are going to heaven. Even though the rest of you believe in Jesus and all that- well, sorry. You picked the wrong denomination. You were supposed to be roman catholic and give them all your money, then the pope lets you into heaven.
The only difference in denominations is interpretations over specific parts of the bible, and how strictly they enforce certain aspects. All christians believe that Jesus is their savior. But lutherans have women as pastors. Catholics don't. Catholics take all your money, and the methodists and lutherans let you keep it.
The mormons are a little different, not too familiar with them, but a buddy in high school was a mormon, and had to go to church every morning, and they are not allowed to drink alcohol at all.
Obviously, with any denomination there will be people who follow it more closely than others, but honestly the big difference is the atmosphere of the congregation. Some are MUCH more relaxed than others. Go to a few one sunday- you're always welcome. You'll get a feel for how different they are.
(just a note- i'm not pushing religion, i don't believe in organized religion and am actually an athiest- but i always open my mind to try and understand everyone's beliefs. i dont think there's a kind of church/temple/synagogue that i havent tried.)
Hopefully this helps a little bit.

Catholics do not believe they are the only ones going to heaven. In fact Catholicism believes even an aetheist can go to heaven.
This thread can get out of hand VERY quickly so lets be respectful please. I am willing to participate and explain my beliefs if asked, but it must be remembered that religion and the humans within a religious system are two totally different things.

Religion is a method of controlling the masses. The only difference between them is how much leeway they give the average person before they say, "You're going to Hell."
I remember when I was 4 or 5, there was a girl next door that told me I was going to hell because I didn't go to church. I stabbed her in the eye with a screwdriver.
Better to have depth perception in hell than to see two-dimensional in heaven.

I'll agree with you there.
And it really depends on what kind of catholic church you go to. There are major differences between them, i've found. I personally find catholics to be the most extreme when it comes to judging people, which is why i left it in the first place. But you're right- this comes from the people, not the actual religion. The catholic religion says that everyone can get into heaven.
Try to convince a devout catholic of this, and you will be in for a long day of argueing.
I apoligize for my comment earlier, i was just trying to make a point, and venting some of my frustration.

I liked your comment...........catholics are the biggest hypocrites on the planet.
Sin on monday forgiven on sunday. I was raised that way too.
Religion is a fun topic. It can get out of hand but its better that we all know the differing opinions than to go on thru life and pretending all is well with the world.
All of you should know by now that Im very much agnostic.........Id love to be atheist but thats kinda dumb too. Show me some proof and Ill submit.
