Default They wonder why these cartoons get made...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060217/...ophet_drawings

And they fucking wonder WHY people think the muslim world is crazy.

By RIAZ KHAN, Associated Press Writer 9 minutes ago

A Pakistani cleric announced Friday a $1 million bounty for killing a cartoonist who drew Prophet Muhammad, as thousands joined street protests and Denmark temporarily closed its embassy and advised its citizens to leave the country.

Police confined the former leader of an Islamic militant group to his home to prevent him from addressing supporters over the cartoons, amid fears he could incite violence, after riots this week killed five people.

Security forces were out in strength, particularly around government offices and Western businesses, as Muslims streamed onto the streets after Friday prayers. More than 200 people were detained, but most gatherings were peaceful.

In neighboring India, police used batons and tear gas to disperse thousands of angry worshippers who rioted in the southern city of Hyderabad. They burned Danish flags, pelted police with stones, and looted shops. Hundreds more protested in Bangladesh.

In the northwestern Pakistan city of Peshawar, prayer leader Mohammed Yousaf Qureshi announced the bounty for killing a cartoonist to about 1,000 people outside the Mohabat Khan mosque.

Qureshi said the mosque and his religious school would give $25,000 and a car, while a local jewelers' association would give another $1 million. No representative of the association was available to confirm it had made the offer.

The sad thing is, it's likely the cartoonist will be killed, and it won't be for the money.

Looted shops huh. Such good muslims they are right? Not only are we going to protest but we're going to steal your things cause, that somehow makes up for the fact that you drew muhammad. Absolute psychos.

You know, this only shows how ignorant some people can be toward other people. Sometimes we do things without even thinking about the repercussions and consequences that might incur from our actions. All these may have been easily averted by a public apology. Instead, we assert the way we are and argue about our ways.

The way I think of it is:

There are a lot of Muslims and only a handful of them are lunatic fanatics. We tend to depict the handful as the norm! It's like throwing away the whole basket when only one apple is rotten.

Did you know that in Tehran, you can no longer purchase a Danish? You know those flakey, tastey pastries? They are now called Roses of the Prophet Mohammed. Make sure you ask for them by their proper name the next time you are in your local Muslim bakery.

Yeah, I can't remember how many times I've killed, burned buildings, and stole a bunch of shit because I saw a Jesus cartoon I didn't like.

And I'm not even Christian.

Come on dude, are you seriously chastizing us for a "culture difference"? May I be the first to welcome you to civilization...

1. These were REPRINTED cartoons. THEY'RE FUCKING CARTOONS. Why no riots when someone gets beheaded, or school children shot, or people saying it's ok to fly planes into buildings?
2. These were first printed in a MUSLIM DOMINATED COUNTRY. No riots occurred then.
3. Somehow, we have depictions of the "prophet" Muhammed from history. How can this be if it's forbidden? Because some jerkass Imam made this shit up.
4. If it's just a "handful" why is it so prevalent? A "handful" of bikers fit the Biker Boyz or tough-guy Harley act... why is that so prevalent?

Use your brain instead of your womanly emotions.

+1 There is no excuse for the actions of the muslem population in these countries. It was reported that the vast majority never even seen the drawings, just heard the report on the radio or by word of mouth. Spending as much time as I have in the middle east and being around the ppl, not all ppl are like they depicted on TV or mags. Like most Americans that claim Christianity, they don't live in accordance with chosen religion and aren't extreemists.

Womanly emotions???? All I'm saying is that this world can be a better place if we stop condemning the lot of them. Granted that they do what they do, we do it here, too! Just take a look back to what happened in California not too long ago. Think with your head and not with your penis, macho man! Oh, and personal attacks will get you nowhere in any discussion.

It's not really a personal attack - it's ok to be sensitive. Now if I had said "stop acting like a bitch..."

It's just a less tactful way of saying use logical reasoning instead of emotional response on this issue. If my penis is this logical, I must be a really lonely rocket scientist...

If you're referring to the Rodney King riots, that wasn't over a few cartoons. While it's still uncalled for, it's not the same. There's too much to be said about the cultural state of California in '92. The American black community has a lot of other issues that are not even remotely parallel in this regard.

As for the riots after some college team won a game... now that's thinkin with yer nuts. I can't even come up with an excuse for that one.

It's really touchy. If you really look at it, they have nothing to hold on to but their faith. It becomes demeaning to them when that faith is desecrated by others. I'm not chastizing, just trying to understand, because I really can't relate to this.

1) Why is it that when we piss them off, they kill?
2) Why is it that the vengeance is much graver than the initial act?
3) Why do we piss them off?

As was discussed in the last thread, I'd like to see more of the Islamic religous leaders taking a hard-nose stance against these radicals. The fact that this clergyman takes a stance with them, tells me a whole lot about them. Its all coming out... Its time to stop making excuses for them.

Your avatar made me zone out.

There's centuries of explanation for that answer. Multiple answers for each of your questions, depending on which Muslims (or scholars) you ask.

Every crazed religion has done what they're doing at one time or another. The big difference here is - most of them grew out of that and realized that's not a very civilized thing to do. The fanatical Muslims just keep on doing it, and that's why I denegrate them and their sensless acts.

I prefer to not waste my time "understanding" those that can't think logically for themselves. It's enough to just know that they are a detriment to our global society and don't care to do anything about it. I understand that "not all of them" are like that, but you don't see the "good" ones coming out in full force and condemming the violent, pointless acts. Let alone DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. They're partially to blame for the stereotype that is being made fun of in the cartoons.

Not that Catholics are any better (child molesting priests)... but that's another matter entirely. For one, you have to be Catholic (unlike Muslims killing anyone) and two, they weren't blowing up buildings.

On a side note: Your last two questions could apply to women. If you figure it out, let me know!

Christians were murderers as well.

Its funny how a fictitious charachter can make it all okay to kill others.

When I want to kill people I have to worry about prison
