Reporting on the Cheney Interview
News headline:
Four days after shooting and wounding a friend during a hunting trip, Vice President Dick Cheney publicly addressed the incident for the first time Wednesday in an interview with a cable network.
Does anyone else have issue with the way the headline is worded?
My problem here is with the media and the way things are slanted when presented to the public. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are yeah, this could have be done sooner, but what's the big deal? The incident was reported on Sunday but I think that is appropriate because the guys' family had to be informed. Cheney accepted responsibility and I don't see why we can't leave it at that. Cheney doesn't feel any need to bend over backwards to address more personal issues like this because he has no future political ambitions.
I also like how the interview was with "a cable network." Is it so terrible to write the word Fox?

The problem is the media thinks it owns the news and demands access to all stories. The fact is they do not and this pisses them off because once the general public sees this fact, the MSM loses its pull.
Yes, there are MANY things the Whitehouse deals with that the media knows NOTHING about. All news is declassified, obsolete intelligence.

I guess that explains reporters being jailed for not revealing their sources!

I just came across the link from the other discussion thread about dead eye and was struck by the fact that the headline dripped of negative opinion on the amount of time it took Cheney to come forward. Just my take on it?

Seems to me this whole story is overblown. A hunting accident, big deal, these things happen. They should be more concerned with the people dying in Iraq rather than Dicks lack of gun control and tact. It has provided some humor though at the victims expense however.

I agree the whole "amount of time it took for him to report the shooting" angle has been overdone and overblown. The story in-and-of itself is funny enough. This could've been handled simply enough.
Reporter: Why did it take you so long to report the shooting?
Dick: I had to wait 24 hours so my blood alcohol level wouldn't get me in trouble. We also had to notify the victim's family.
Reporter: What is the victim's prognosis?
Dick: You'll have to ask the hospital. I haven't checked up on my "friend."
Reporter: Will you avoid hunting in similar scenarios in the future?
Dick: Probably not. In fact, I plan to carry a flask of burbon instead of drinking just "a beer" the next time I plan to go hunting. It gets cold in central Texas! Bwaa haa haa haa.

Perhaps the reporters know something that we don't.
For example, just heard on the radio, talk comedy type show proposing a theory, what if Dead Eye was shit faced???
Come on it does make some sense. They are bumping along in the Range Rover on a private ranch looking for cage raised 'tard birds throwing their Bud tall boys out the window while taking shots at what ever moves. Cheney thinks he hits one and sends the old man dog to git it and forgets to stop shooting until he gets back to the car. Shoots the guy and oh shit the VP drunk! Cover this up fast, fast fast!

Cheney accidentally shot his friend. He and the friend have addressed the issue and they are both fine. Why would he NEED to make a public address about it? Its not like they hid the news. Private matters were resolved and then a statement was released.
A few months back, one of my friends was shot while hunting. He lost one eye and may yet lose the other. Did he think it was necessary for the shooter to make a public apology on the news? NO. The shooter and my friend talked, they know it was an accident, asll has been forgiven.
Why does Cheney's incident need to be different?

Hozhead, well because he is the VP. That job kind of means you have thrown out much of your personal privacy. A lot of this I will say is because of the type of person the VP is. This is an attack on the VP as a person, who is sorry to say a lying scum bag treasonous thieving bullying prick.

It's already been said he didn't have the proper permit to be hunting. All he has to do is pay some fine for that. It does make one wonder, though, if he is just another lawless cowboy running around doing whatever he pleases regardless of his public or those around him.
