actually, Whittington walked into the line of fire and was struck in the upper torso and face...he was approx 30 yards away...there is a reason all birdhunters use the "line formation" when hunting, to prevent just such an accident from happening...I had a classmate in High School who blinded his Father in this exact same way, because the Father walked into the line of fire...and was nearly killed.

I know he was peppered about the face.I read the article.
What I posted was what we call a joke. I do understand it was anatomically incorrect, but, this phrase is often used regardless of the location of the wound.
I do not believe that Cheney actually tried to shoot him in the ass and I do not believe Cheney is shooting people because of senility.
I will add disclaimers, explaining my stance, to further posts.

Although, I do believe he's "tying up loose ends" from the Abramoff scandal.

Cheney was using a small bore shotgun. He had to hit the guy dead square to cover both his face and torso. Now its been a while since I took NRA gun safety classes, but I seem to remember that you're supposed to know your target before you shoot it.
And I would think that anyone could blow shot into a bush and kill a bird. I thought the idea was to shoot them flying.
Mary Matalin was quick to point out (in today's Washington Post) that Dick didn't "break any rules" which I found funny. And there is a definite blame the victim tone to Administration comments. That shouldn't really surprise anyone.
But the funniest quote of the day was:
Quote:
"Fortunately, the vice president has got a lot of medical people around him and so they were right there and probably more cautious than we would have been," she said. "The vice president has got an ambulance on call, so the ambulance came."
Katherine Armstrong (owner of the ranch and leaker of the story)

Actually, a smaller shotgun, such as he was using, will generally not hold a tight pattern as far as a larger bor, such as 12 gauge. Given the fact that the looser pattern chokes are used when bird hunting, he did not have to hit the guy dead square to cover both his face and torso. 30 yards would be plenty far enough away to do that.

Yes, and you also know where other hunters are located, and all hunters are supposed to stay where they are supposed to be, so that another hunter doesn't shoot where they are not suppose to be and hit them.

Not all birds fly straight up. I have not done much quail hunting in a few years, seeing as how there have been no quail around my land since I was an early teenager, but the ones I saw generally flew about face level to get away. They would then land somewhere in or around the field in thicker cover. From my experience, where this gentleman got shot is exactly where I would expect someone quail hunting to get shot.

Hate to break it to you, but if a guy does not stay in formation, and then gets shot, it IS his fault. Usually, the only fault that can be placed on the shooter in that instance, is for hunting with a dumbass that does not know how to stay in formation.

Actually, I did not take offense to the post. I find it very funny. If you want to call me a defender of dick because I correct inaccuracies, it doesn't bother me.
And I do have a hobby. I hunt.

I think you are confusing safety techniques with release from shooter responsibility. Would you be making the same case for John Kerry?
