In my opinion--It's kind of dumb to exercise "Freedom of Speech" when you clearly know that all it will do is incite hatred and add fire to an already very complicated situation (and possibly get people hurt).

There's more than just some smiley digs behind the symbolic communication here. The masters always expect the defeated peons to take it all with glee. As I said above, the reactions always fulfill the prophecy. The frustration is not with a simple cartoon caricature, its' with a culture of domination that is reinforcing itself at every turn. The reason we can take something like this and slough it off is because we don't share that status. Freedom of speech matters not when you are a slave.

I read the paper every day, I see every political comic that is put in the currents section. I don't agree with every one. There are some that piss me off, some I laugh at, and some that are just stupid.

I STILL don't fucking protest with me and 1K of my ignorant buddies because we we are unhappy with our life, blame BUSH, blame Europe, western decadence, grab my nearest hand launched weapon of destruction, and shoot rounds in the air to somehow get some news reporter to catch me in the act of acting like an AHOLE.

You still don't see the difference, do you?

You are thinking about the Freedom of Speech in the wrong manner. This freedom we Americans celebrate is not to protect you for what you want or have to say. It's to protect other's so that they may say what you don't want to hear. That's a beautiful thing. People think they have the right to not be offended, that's not the case at all. Being offended is a good thing. It shows that you actually care and have strong feelings either for or against something.

In an ideal global society, people would respect what each and every other persons view and opinion is and simply accept it as such.

That's the thing, it's not a completely different culture, we just wish it was. Their acts are overt and stupid to us, ours are the same to them. Both violent, both irrational in their communication, both base their morality in strategies of domination. No different in the end, all pigs, some just more seething than others.
