I feel your sentiment and rightfully so. The statement "We need to make NO chocolate city" was an inappropriate remark only because he did not include whites as well. Simply, that statement made others feel excluded. I believe the statement would have been more appropriate with "Citizens of NO" to include everyone who lived there before the disaster.
I can't say what the real motive was in saying "Chocolate city" perhaps directed only to the African Americans populous to COME BACK to NO and rebuild, I don't know. But you’re right, although the majority of NO is African American, as a Mayor making a speech should’ve included everyone and not single out only African American. Later he did apologize for making that statement not to be taken out of context but the damage was already done.
If you want to bring together the people of NO than one need to choose the words very carefully so that people don’t take think out of context, IF that was not your intent in the first place.
Oh, but his explanation included "you need white milk to make chocolate milk...."

My wife and I have cancelled our trip to N.O. for Mardi Gras. We dug deep and gave 'till it hurt and put in volunteer time for the refugees who came to our area. But I will not contribute another single dime towards that city as long as Willie Ragin Wonka is Mayor of that city. Racist fucktard.
There are many good people in NO and I will visit there again, NOT for the Mayor of that city but for the people who have provided welcome carpet for all visitors anywhere you go, restaurants, bars, shops, and from the people you run into, the friendly atmosphere and kind gestures people of NO have provided.
Mayor does not speak for the good people of NO so don't penalize them for his imprudent remark.
I've given more than my fair share. I love N.O. and have spent a lot of time and lots of my hard earned money there. But I don't think I'm "chocolate" enough for the mayor. Perhaps if the good people of N.O. realize that a lot of people feel the same way as I do they will ditch that crazy mofo.
It's unfortunate that those comments were made at a day that celebrates the contributions of a man, who IMHO, should be cannonized for his esposed views on equality, freedom and racial harmony.

What he said about wanting a "chocolate city" is extremely disturbing. To me, it sounds like he doesn't even give two sh$ts about all the other people that made NO what it was before the disaster.
