I speak several languages. English by choice. Actually, all of them by choice.
If the growing minority Latino population becomes the majority, will predominant Spanish language use be by warfare, or choice?

I completely dissagree.
When all the other nationalities came here by the tens of thousands.....people gave up their old nationality identity to become american. When you decide to cater to the ever growing population of hispanics instead of coercing them to accept the standards in this country you make a country lose an identity not an immigrant.
You want to condone and cater to it.........do it equaly for all languages. Otherwise its discrimination. If people dont want to speak english, they can go back where they came. Its pretty simple really.
I see Russians, Greeks, Jews, Italians, Pakistanis and a myriad of other races making a solid effort to be part of the "AMERICAN" people.
For you to say any other way is right is blasphemy

I'll bet if u ask the people who have been refused a sale they'll say its bad business.
I agree with you, but the point is that a business is supposed to be after sales. I work at a video store and we have many asshole customers, very argumentative, whiny, complain about everything customers...But guess what, they spend money...everyday...so the managers and subsequently the employees have to deal with their bs. We don't HAVE TO, but we do, because we want their money.
And what about the people that do speak english that see that on their ad and whoa, thats kinda shitty, and decide to not buy. AGAIN, I'm not saying that it is per say "shitty" to do that to non-english speaking customers, but it is nonetheless BAD BUSINESS.

Demographic analysis is a significant and crucial process in the development of the business process. Disenfrachise and you'll spell your own demise!

Just because you claim there is a majority of Hispanics in California, it does not make the language of choice spanish by any means. But that's besides the point.
These e-bay sellers don't know any other language, and they are just giving a disclaimer they are not going to whip out the translator to communicate with "potential bidders."
I'm sure the most likely bidder will know how to speak english, which means it was a bad business statement. They could have ignored all the non-english questions, and just answered the english ones. In the end, if the high bidder can't speak english, money talks. They don't need to respond in english.
Ok anyone from california knows exactly what im talking about... First off i'd like to say i have nothing against the mexica culture... hell i had a mexica gf for 7 months! but, when someone gets mad at me for not knowing how to speak spanish at Carl's jr. that pisses me off. i work at the one in my town (i know its a crappy job but thats besides the point) and some people just get pissed off that i cant speak spanish! WTF is up with that? we live in America where we speak english!!! learn the language of the country you live in. I wouldnt get mad at somone in Germany if they didnt know how to speak english... ahhhhh sry thats me venting...

If someone was reading thier auction then they obviously can read english. They prolly got some responses in another language and it became an issue. Maybe someone was a dead beat and pulled the "no peaka eingish" card. I sell a little on eBay too and I only speak English but don't advertise it, but if you write me in a foriegn language I will be like WTF??? I've been to close to 20 countries around the world. Germany and the Middle East for the most amount of time and guess what??? Yo
