I didn't make them up.. maybe math just isn't your bag baby.

Statewide, 0.30% of people in same sex couples.

Derived thusly.. 3,370 "same sex couples" = 6,740 "gays"

Which is 0.30% of the 2,233,169 total UT statewide population

In Salt Lake County, it's 1,964 couples = 3928 "gays"

Which is 0.437% of the 898,387 total Salt Lake County population.

Note that *I* didn't make these calculations, THEY did.

Although that doesn't matter.. because math, like physics.. just IS.

1 + 1 = 2, all day long.

If you architected a Storage Area Network the way you (mis)use statistics,
I'm highly impressed. Which would you like to compare next? Business
success, wallet thickness/acct balance, or penis size? (None of which matter
but all of which you'd come up "short" )

BTW, *I* don't have to make a business case for showing Brokeback or not.

Mr Miller did. It's HIS business..

I just have my 3 businesses to worry about.. he has alot more.
Oh, so you've resorted to penis jokes? Pretty intelligent. I admitted I fucked up on the statistics already. Again, though. You called me a liar on the hours before thing, it was in the text. Did I misrepresent that too?

And yes, you would come up short on everything you've listed anyway. Throw in looks, intelligence, riding ability, talent and the development of opposable thumbs too.

You still haven't made the business case you claimed. There is no way of saying definitively that the movie would have driven business away. Not to mention that the group who was protesting it, wasn't protesting the theater in question.

AND the theater is not showing a movie on objectionable moral grounds and yet will show a movie about torture.

This is simply religious ignorance.

EDIT: In further reading on the subject, the Census only counted couples. There are estimates that this undercounts the population significantly. So, you still could be wrong.

I think this religious ignorance card is being overused. We need to establish for a fact that the theater owner is Mormon (believe it or not you don't have to be Mormon to live in Utah).

And we should take into account that the LDS church did not make any kind of official statement condeming the movie or ask it's members not to see it. I think this is simply an area where the population has strong Christian morals and the general concensus among Christians, not just Mormons, is that homosexuality is wrong.

So maybe I'm just getting the wrong impression from you FB, but I don't want this to turn into a Mormon bashing issue.

You keep dreaming FB... that's all you've got.

Again, you've done nothing. You brought up one thing and it's debatable.

Not to mention PM'ing me like an ass.

You haven't proven a damn thing. You still haven't proven it's a business decision. You said I lied about the hours before thing, which is wrong.

You haven't done a thing to prove my original assertion wrong.

I don't like any religion.

but, What groups are bashing the movie? It's just reality that this has become a religious issue.

Not singling anyone out, this just happens to be in an area with a large LDS population.

He admitted his mistake, you can't admit that you really don't have a point to back you up.

You're just doing the typical "I know everything, because I know" bullshit.

It's funny, because of the people who actually LIVE here in Utah, we all
understand why Larry Miller did what he did.. it was smart for his business.

The rest of you just don't get it.

Now, I'm not LDS.. I'm not sure if Poulsen is or isn't.. but this has NOTHING
to do w/ "religion".. it has everything to do with the fact that for the
majority of people in the Sandy Utah area, the concept of "Gay Cowboys"
is considered anywhere from "ridiculous" to "repulsive" and in no case is it
considered "hey, that's interesting"

It is THOSE people that are the customers of Jordan Landing.

I challenge both you and Fargin Bastige to come out here to Utah and I'll
personally take you down south to meet some REAL ranchers, hands, and
cowboys.. The real ones, not movie ones.. moving herd thru BLM lands and
the like. You can discuss the premise with them.

But enough of that.. the simple fact is that Larry Miller didn't show the movie
because he didn't want to.. and as a business OWNER he can do that.

DEAL WITH IT you WHINEY BASTARDS.

Actually, I have.. time and again.

In typical Daly-land liberal fashion anytime you put up a target, and someone
hits it.. you move the target and scream "You missed" ex-post-facto.

Maybe if you open up a Vegan restaurant, and after you have a great
clientele of customers you start serving rare beef.. you can get an idea
of why LM made the decision he did. It's called knowing your customer.

Oh wait.. I know.. "bad comparison".

This is another dumb diatribe. You proved he had the percentage wrong, what else?

You say because you live there, you know. Well, he said he went to Sandy also. So, your argument is the same.

Again, you haven't proven a thing. Just typical bullshit. Call me whiney all you want. Fact is, you still haven't said anything other than I know.

Which is not a fact.

As a non-religous, non-Utah resident, heterosexual male, you couldnt pay me to go see this movie, based on its premise. The last thing I want to see is fudge packing cowboys. Deal with it.

Fargin, I like you, normally I agree with you, but I think in this, you are fighting a losing battle, your statement that "statistically" 10% of LDS land Sandy are gay, is like saying that (hypothetically) since 50% of the US population is white, that 50% of the population in Harlem is white as well. It is a logical fallacy, and sometimes you have to accept that in certain parts of the country, like minded people congregate.

P.S. I would bet the gay population of say, San Fran is a bit higher than 10%
It is called "average" for a reason.
