Default Natural Gas Prices?

How many of you are experiencing a hike in the price to heat your home?

Its funny, our state issued rebate checks from the tax department and the average check was a hundred bucks. Too bad the bill more than doubled this month alone.

I find it odd that I live in a state that has the 2nd largest (supposedly) natural gas well in the country and yet we pump gas to California for cheaper than the people right on top of the thing pay.

Anyone else feeling the squeeze?

My parents stopped useing their gas logs to heat their home. Now they rely solely on central heat. The electricity is now cheaper. personally, I have never had my gas logs hooked up yet.

You do, you live in Albuquerque. I looked at your profile and you live in an area that I am thinking about buying a house, NW area? (Zip is 87120)

I work at PNM, what do you want to know about the price? PNM isn't sticking it to you guys as some people like to think. In all actuallity PNM is not allowed to make profit off of what we sell to the public, ie we are a public service company and therefore can only charge the public the price it costs for the gas and what it costs to get it to you. Also if you think we pay a lot here you should look at what they pay back east for Natural gas. They pay 50% to 200% more for gas than we do. We really have it good here, and prices have actually been well below forecasted prices.

Just thought I would let you know.

What do you ride? Do you freguent the RSW forum, it is mainly a car racing forum but does have a bunch of people locally that ride. Hit me up if you ever want to go out and ride.

Natural gas is an extremely variable demand commodity. The company that brings it to your house must buy it from the wholesalers and they usually buy it in advance based on their historical needs. This frequently makes it more expensive in addition to the economies of scale.

Keep in mind, natural gas is used for peak demand loads of electrical generation and the utility that brings gas into your house could also generate peak demand electricity (morning hours, post rush hour) in aero-derivative generators. The base load is supplied by steam plants, typically fueled by coal, oil or fission.

Since gas is transported via pipelines, it cannot be easily stored like a coal yard. This makes the supply-demand matching difficult. California just happened to get lucky.
