So last night I just bought this 1990 EX500. I paid $1500 which is a little much but it only has 500 miles on it. At first I thought the odometer was broken or something but he said it just sat garaged for like 15 years and as far as I can tell that's what it did.
Anyway, he said in January he replaced the tires, cleaned out the carbs, replaced the signals, and did a few minor things. The only thing I noticed right off the bat is that the tank is quite rusty so does anyone know if I should just replace it before the carbs get too bad? Also, it runs just fine but does anyone know if the engine's messed up from sitting so long with low miles. Like, should I still ride it as if it was new with low miles?
I'm so impressed with the power this bike has and it's incredibly comfortable. I'm very happy with my purchase so far.
If the tank has rust in it then replace it immediatly, that will ruin your motor. other than that it looks good, is it missing the lower piece or did it not come with one in 1990?

If I can't have her! Then why should I, spend anymore, time in a world that's gonna end pretty soon.
I need you now, more than I ever did, I'll hand myself over for you.
This comlinks lost it's frequency and I feel that were coming home short.
Here take me instead, I rather not see her off alone.

you can also kreme in it
as in use Kreme to line the tank. They sell everything you need at the dealership. It takes some time, but might be worth it depending on how much a new tank will cost, Kreme is about $30 for the whole kit. It removes rust, and coats the inside of tank. I did it on mine, and wasn't too bad.
I love it when someone finds a deal (steal) like that. I had a chance about a year ago on a great used steal but passed. Now I kick myself.
Thanks for posting.

OMG! That is my first bike/sportbike!!! I bought the same one when I turned 17! Same color and everything! Awwww, the memories.
Great bike and nice deal. The lower chin fairing was optional on those. Targa made (don't know if they still do) a nice fiberglass full lower for that which I had, or just the OEM lower scoop like what comes on the newer ones.
Looks like some of the stickers have been removed though. There should be a large 'EX' right behind the front blinkers and the sky blue/pink pin striping isn't there either.
Kreem the tank and see how that works. And have fun with it.

That was my first bike as well. Same year, same colour, everything. Make sure you change out the fuel filter, even if it looks new. Also, use Kreme and see if you can fix the rust problem; if you are unable to, Ebay is your friend. Also, get a can of spray carb cleaner and go to town on your carbs, it's quite worth your while. Other than that, nice ride, looks clean.
Also, be aware that there's a metal stay under your fender that will bend if you go down, and make it look as if your forks may no longer be straight. You may want to consider removing the metal bit, as it's unnecessary.
