I have a K7 gixxer 750, it is stock except for a Jardine bolt on exhaust. When I am up in the high RPMs and let off the bike shoots a flame out the exhaust. Is this hurting the engine? How can I prevent this? Will a power commander correct this?

A power commander mapped correctly should fix the problem.

What's happening is the bike is having a really lean condition as soon as you let off of the throttle. That lean condition is then detonating once it gets into the exhaust pipe. The way to fix it is to get your idle/low speed circuit richened up a bit.
