Default Sprocket Question

I'm thinking of going down on tooth on the front sprocket (I have an 03' 954RR) but I've heard different things: it'll wheelie easier (do not want) or that it will give a faster acceleration and NOT wheelie easier (want). Could someone help clear this up?

....not sure if you have to factor this but I have the PC3, K&N, Velocity stacks, and 2Bro's Slip on.

...and Vortex clip-on's, so I'm as over the tank as it could possibly get without being in full tuck

the faster the bike accelerates the easier the front is going to lift. going down one in the front will make it accelerate slightly faster.

I imagine you can pretty easily get the front wheel up with it stock.

Going down one tooth in the front will make it even easier to get the front end up.

I would have to ask...if a 954 doesn't accelerate fast enough for you, then what would? I mean seriously, do you REALLY need the bike to accelerate any faster than it already does??

it just didn't seem to have the pick-up I wanted in the lower gears. Just wanted it to be a *bit* quicker...seems to have worked but I'm positive my speedo is off, just not sure by how much though. Anyone know how to get it adjusted back to exact?

Sounds like a plan...damn, and here I was thinking I could ease back on the mods for a bit =p

Anyone know about how much going one down on the front will skew the speedo?

You should be able to do the math on the ratio change and calculate it. But if you really want to have it be spot on borrow someone's GPS and use it to measure your true speed. Most speedos aren't accurate at all speeds. If it were me I'd calibrate it at 65 MPH so I know that it's very close to what the radar will be saying while I'm on the highway. At lower speeds if it's off it won't be as significant and at high speeds most speedos are WAY off anyway.

Found this website Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Gearing Ratio Sprocket RPM Speed Chain Calculator that gave up some gearing vs. mph. top speed vs. RPM info. Anyone use this before? Or anyone think it's about accurate?

Well, that does all the math for you. Only issue would be, was your speedo accurate to begin with?
