Default Tuning the suspension on a 2000 R1

I'm trying to tune my suspension into my hieght/weight. I'm 5'11" and 160lbs. Any one have some advice where to put the settings on my bike?

I don't really live close to a track (that I know of) and the yamaha dealership here are mild retards.

eh, I have a 2000 R1. setting wise, this is what I have done (please remember the rear shock is re-valved). I'm gonna give you all of what I've done to the suspension.

My rear ride height is all the way at the top, My forks are lowered like 4 mm, I have 4 lines showing on the top of my forks as well. I have to get the bike completely in the middle of the garage before I can get any other settings.

BTW, my weight is 150 (160 w/gear)

If your fork oil has never been changed, and your internals are getting a bit tired, using those settings may not help terribly much.

Oil breaks down, looses its viscosity, and the springs loose their tensile strength after 8 years of going boing boing boing

well, I paid $4k for the bike then painted it. Local dealer will give me $5k as trade in for another bike. Ohlins=$1500.... 04-06 R1=$2k-$3k.... The new bike is a better choice for me. I'm tired of this carburated thing anyhow....

you have no idea how nice your bike will be untill you throw on some ohlins suspension. or penske...something. but ohlins front and rear is very very sick and will make any bike much better. but i hear ya, carbs kinda do bite!

If you are on the lighter side 140-180 the sport rider suspension setting guide done by Nick I. It is a great place to start. It is on the website. It is good for 95% of the riders with just a click or two of adjustment. The early R1's can be a real challange to set up even for experenced riders. Dont ignore the tire pressure get a good gauge and be very carfull to check it regularly, It would be wise to change the Fork oil but dont go cheap. Yamaha oil is as good as it gets might as well use that.

Do the work yourself that way you know you have done it right.
