Question 2004 R1 Factory Damper on an 2007 R6S?

I was talking to a buddy back home in AL and he was commenting on how he was fixing up his 2004 R1 for racing and had lots of extra parts left over if I wanted them to use on my bike. Considering that I don’t own an R1, at first I didn’t think I’d be able to use anything. I’m pretty happy with how my bike’s set up. I have been wanting to get a steering damper, though, and was wondering how hard it would be to adapt the factory damper off his ’04 R1 to my ’07 R6S. Would it be worth the trouble? By that, I mean would it be less expense/effort than just buying a used GPR or something with the right parts to fit my bike, and would it be a good damper once it was on my bike? I assume it’s not an amazingly great damper to start with or he wouldn’t have replaced it. Anyone got any advice or experience trying to do this?

Someone else will chime in I'm sure, but the factory dampers on most bikes suck balls. In addition you'll have to fabricate a mount which is another hurdle. Get a GPR or the like imo.

i think the factory dampers are mounted under the fairing, and that type of damper has a shorter stroke than tree mounted dampers. your best bet would be to mount it (by fabbing a mount) near the lower triple. but i dont think it'll be easy.
