Mirror mod...has anyone done it?
I was curious about any serious mirror mods for bikes... Has anyone done, or heard of, replacing the standard mirrors on a moto with slimmer, more flush mounting mirror housings fit with small LCDs and rear view cameras?
Something similar to:
eBay Motors: 99-02 KAWASAKI NINJA ZX6R PIG SPOTTER 2 LED MIRRORS (item 300128380864 end time Feb-02-08 14:55:06 PST)
I thought this would be a rather handy mod, though perhaps not really practical. I ride a ZZR600, and the stock mirrors catch a lot of my shoulders if I don't sit right, and get the positioned perfectly. I know they have a quick and cheap fix... extenders! but I was just wondering if anyone has even tried this? It I am guessing would be a serious 'custom' job.

Pig Spotters are pretty common. they are a somewhat cosmetic mod. It seems the more experienced riders will agree that they sacrifice functionality for form. Its not for me, but I'm not one to judge.
Edit:
"These mirrors are desinged for a sleek look and they do decreases visibility by 20%-30% compared to stock mirror visibility depending on the model. If you need 100% rear visibility, Do Not Buy These Mirrors!"
Says that directly in the auction. Definitely not for me.

Yeah, that much I have found, but I'm talking about using those TYPES of mirrors, and replacing the mirror surface with a small LCD screen that links to a directed cam. Those I'm sure would reduce my visibility severely. Thats why I was wondering if anyone heard of or has seen any that hold snug to the front like those, yet hook up to a camera or something so you can see without anything in the way. I'm sure it will create a good sized blind spot(maybe if you used a special lensed camera it wouldn't be so bad).
This was all just a passing thought. If I can ever find the hardware to do it myself, I will give it a shot, but this isn't some simple bolt on. I can't even find an LCD that would fit. Seems everyone wants bigger LCD's than I could fit in that mirror housing. And i don't want to cut apart another device to pull the LCD from it. $100 in the mirrors... $300-400 for the LCDs? I don't think so... It would definitely be a unique mod.

Actually no.... that was better than I had in mind. The mirror overlay was a great idea. Everything else, yeah... that! Thanks! So I know it has been DONE, but how to is something else.
You like your setup better? How so?

Ok, that is beautiful. My original idea was to use a separate cam for each mirror, slightly angled in that direction... but seeing how well your single cam looks, I'm impressed and don't see the need for two. Once I get the cash saved up for that type of mod, I will definitely do that! And that is one really nice bike you have there man.
How much trouble and cost did that kind of setup(the cam/screen) run you?

That's pretty freaking sweet! I found one similar on eBay for $100. it wasn't the VR, and it had a wired cam...but it doesn't seem all that expensive. I'm going to check into this! The wiring is the only thing that will probably be a pain.
It took you days to get setup? That isn't promising.

Why do that when you can just turn around and see for yourself?

Personally, without doing 160... I would like to be able to see as much as possible without having to actually turn around and look over a shoulder. I want to be able to keep my eyes on the road ahead, and glance down and see everything I can behind me or beside me. Since my mirrors don't do as well as I would like... I like the idea of the cam system. Plus I love the looks of it. Gets rid of my mirrors and makes it look far more stream lined. Its just a personal preference thing.
