Default GSXR Style Tailight mod - free

Hey guys,

Here's some pic's of a GXSR style tailight mod I did to my bike.

I had a guy from concours.org ship me what I thought was going to be a taillight lens, but instead it was a rear turnsignal. I was going to take the rear taillight and spray the inside so it looked like this... but since I didn't get the taillight I instead got a turnsignal i figured I'd rig up mine.

I decided that I wasn't sure if I wanted to screw up the taillight lens, or even if I wanted to keep this style taillight, so I decided making something removable.

I found a piece of cardboard and started messing around with a razor.

I came up with the idea below. Halfway through, I thought that it may be a fire hazard as there is cardboard (paper) in close vicinity to a tail light lens... I decided to add some aluminum foil to put on the lamp side. I doubt it would do much, but it made me feel better

I painted the side of the cardboard that would be pressed up against the lens.

Its not perfect, but looks nifty.... its going to help me figure out if I want to paint one perminantly...

Below are some pics to document it...

if you're gonna do that use thicker material and match it up nicely so all you'll see when it lights up are the 2 circles

You could also try covering the whole inside of the lens with a layer or two of foil using double stick tape and then cut the holes out with your cardboard stencil. I think having the foil stuck right up against the lens would let less light through. It looks like your insert is just sitting in there right now which is letting a lot of light through, and nothing is covering the edges.

Thanks man. The insert is currently right up against the lens. I didn't cover any of the sides, which if you saw the bike in person it doesn't make too much of a difference (to me anyway)...

Its a test to see if I like it...

If I decide that after awhile I like it... I will remove the cardboard and spray the inside and not have to worry about any other light shining out etc.
