Default tuning.....for altitude.....

hey guys.

maybe some of you tuning guru's can help me out.

my bike, 2007 Suzuki SV1000s was a real handful when i was living in florida.

went -1 in the frount, and gutted the stock cans, and anything more then half throttle in first gear had wheelies coming out the wa-zu.

i moved to Denver, co (4,800ft above sea level) and the only mod ive doe is i tripled the size of the hole in my airbox and raised the tank.........(common sv1000 mod)

but now the bike will not pull up the frount end in first gear (unless popping the clutch of course).....i figure before i opened the airbox i lost as much as 15% pwr, and after opening it up, i think im 8-10% down on power.........

i dont really want to dump buckets more money into this bike if it will never be like it use too...........

so is spending $300 for a dyno tune and $300 more for a power comander going to do the job?

or is much more work needed!?

help a guy out

thx

Drop the main jets 5 points. If that helps but doesn't quite get there go another 5 or 2-1/2 increment if you can get them. Example if stock is say 150's go to 145's. Should be a big difference. Most likely your running too rich at the momment.

lol, rockertom long time ! hows the v-max?

the bike is fuel injected, so idk if you mean jets as in carb's
well i know for car's you advance the timing, but im not sure AT ALL how to handle it with bikes.

idk, might be time to trade in the v-twin for a 1,000 i4!

FI- go get a custom map done then. I thought those were carb'd.

The Max is running strong still. Your going to lose some power up there in the thin air. Just have to deal with it.

That might bother some folks. I enjoy what I have availble to me at this point in time. I was up in Virigina earlier this year for a long weekend. So I got to hit some really good stuff. I'll be sure to post a few pics of the max sittin on a corner for ya in January.

Snowin damn hard today here. I'm sure it is there too.

Sorry to disappoint you but yes - everything becomes a significant amount more gutless at altitude. I live at 4200 feet.

I remember when I took my old CBR 900RR down to CA. Power went from awesome to downright violent. It was great!

You just need to go a 'step' up in power to get the same kick at altitude.

Horsepower loss at altitude:
Note: elevation in feet.

hp loss = (elevation x 0.03 x hp @ sea level) / 1000

so (4800 x .03 x 111hp ('03 model)) / 1000 = ~16hp lost

you're feeling about 95hp

lol, a custom built supercharger?!
might as well buy the 1000 and pay for the insurance, it would be cheaper!
