Default Thinking about going with a 530 conversion..

I am going to be purchasing new sprockets and a chain soon. I want to go 1 down in front and 2 up in the rear. My question is will I be able to get more life out a 530 aluminum rear sprocket compared to a 520 aluminum rear? I would like a stealth sprocket but the colors just dont do it for me. I am just thinking that a thicker sprocket will be beefier and thicker and not wear as quickly. This is for an 06 Yamaha r6. Thanks guys.

This is my opinion only....

I would stick with the 530 chain/sprocket. I think the less rotating mass will not make a damned bit of difference to your average street rider, so unless you're constantly racing this thing and need to shave every pound off, stay with the 530.

Aluminum will still wear out more quickly than the steel sprocket, but the 530 should resist wear and tear better.

The gearing ratio will more than make up for that extra width of the 530.

The last aluminum sprocket I bought for the rear (Vortex) lasted about 5000 miles.

See if you can get a steel sprocket instead of aluminum. It will last a lot longer

or get a tri-metal.....

either way....i dont think a 530 is necessary. the 06+ uses a 525 stock, although, a 530 would probly last a while. so if your strictly going for longevity, a 530 with steel is the way to go.
