Default sprocket change

I have an 07 zzr 600. I have read about the -1/+2 front/rear change and have ordered that pair of sprockets. It ended up being 14 front 42 rear. My question is this. I have about 2000 miles on it and the chain adjusters are about half way. Can I get this on with the stock chain or will I be looking at a new chain? If I can't use my stock chain I will most likely order a 41 tooth sprocket (since it is cheaper than a $100 + chain) Most of my riding is highway riding with the majority of it between 70-100. I know that it will bring my top end speed down, but I am hoping I will get there much quicker. Any help will be appreciated

It's unclear what exactly you want to know.

Are you trying to use your old chain? I wouldn't recommend it - new sprockets require a new chain for best results.

If you can't afford the cost of a chain, I would just wait until your current sprockets go and replace all of it in one shot.

yeah you can use your stock chain and your wheel will be in about the exact same spot, that's the whole point of going down in front AND up in back, they cancel each other out. -1,+2 is the equivalent of +5 gearing wise, but if you only went +5 in the rear you'd have to get a new chain.

1 tooth isn't going to make much of a difference, in fact you will be able to put your 15T front back on with the +2 rear and the rear wheel will be within the range of travel in the swingarm.

That was a helpful link. I think I am going to take my bike to a local shop and see if I can watch them do it so in the future I will be able to do it and help people out.

Do what? change sprockets? If you're keeping the same chain, all you need is a torque wrench. Takes 20-30 mins tops

If you ride primarily highway why do you want to go up in the back and down in the front? All you are going to acomplish is more engine wear and fewer mpg..........do yourself a favor and just keep what ya got on there.
