Default Painting an engine....

Hey,all;

What's a good brand of hi-temp paint? I'd like to paint the engines on my 2 bikes, plus a 3rd engine I have lying around in the garage. All engines will be black, of course.

Has anyone painted their bike engines?

Appreciate the info!

Grill paint isn't meant for bikes. You do realize that there are specific paints designed for painting engines, right? You can find them at most auto parts stores.

i used the grill stuff on my pipe. i put like 5 light coats on it and let it sit for an hour before gettting it hot just like it said and its holding up good. i even welded on it and it didnt even burn up around the weld seems like good stuff to me. i dont think it matters whether its made for motors or not just get the shit that has the highest heat tolerances

The bbq paint is fine. The auto stuff may have a more gloss look to it. I prefer the non gloss look myself. Whatever you use, make sure you degrease it several times, and then once more. Remember, painting is 90% prep work! Oh and don't paint your carbs!

I used the Krylon hi-temp for grills as well with no drawbacks. 3 coats on both the engine head and the headers/exhaust, and it's all holding fine against all the elements.

As for the tranny case, I just used cheapy no-name semi-gloss (99 cents a can ) and it works fine, BUT, the paint peels if you get carbeurator cleaner on it FYI.

if you get the grill paint like some of us others, dont get the stuff with the green label on the front unless you want a matte looking finish....the other stuff, which i think has like a white and orange label has a semi-gloss finish to it
