Hey guys,
Just got an idea for a paint job for my newest bike (Factory black U.S. spec 07 GSXR 750). Was thinking of modeling the paint job after the WWII bombers. Olive drab green, complete with the pin up girl decals. Any thoughts or ideas?
I love that idea! I have a book, "Vintage Aircraft Nose Art" by Gary M. Valant, which shows about a thousand photos from WWII bombers and fighters. Some of those pics were awesome! Plus the names they came up with were pretty cool too- Incendiary Blonde, Over Exposed, Belle o' the Brawl. If you do it, Please post lots of pics!

I thought about that too! A lot of the bombers were not painted at all, just that flat aluminum look. It would look good painted silver, with some of the rivets and things painted on like on the KBC. I think I'll have to file this away under "projects to do after winning the Lottery". Maybe a custom painted helmet- Olive drab with matching mini pin-up chicks?

CBRAWR, that's a cool site! The 1st pic on the page, the redhead, I have her tatood across my back, shoulder to shoulder. I may have to pick up some stickers, 'cause it's easier than pulling off my shirt! Plus, FSM can order different sizes for bike and helmet.

This thread is getting me more motivated to get the final graphics done on my "Me262" Cafe Racer. Inspired by the song of the same name by 70's band Blue Oyster Cult, I've been wanting to add paintings to the fairing showing some Tuskeegee Airmen shooting down Me262's to leave no doubt what side I am on...after all as an oldtimer here I must pay homage to my father who faced the Nazis in combat. I choose the Tuskeegee airmen for both the struggles they faced to get established, let alone they had the best record for Bomber escorts AND shot down the most Me262's.
I don't think I'll go as far as the metal/rivet look though. I like blue. Also, it may seem cheesy that, on a budget, I created my own side cover graphics using a copier, clear silicone and the album cover art with the Me262 on it, but it suits me fine.

When I was shopping for a bike, about a year & a half ago, I saw a RC51 that was painted in the scheme of an old war plane, on cycletrader.com, w/ the eyes & teeth. It also was silver w/ what looked like old metal w/ the rivets & all on each panel. I saved that picture then because it was soooo tight! Unfortunately, it has been purged from my pc since. I am trying to find it out there again, but I have a feeling that I won't have much luck. I will still look for it, but it is a bad a$$ idea. The very few I have seen have looked awesome. If i do find it again, I will post it.

You know what would be even cooler than silver paint, would be to silverleaf all of the the plastics (give it a niced brushed aluminum look, intercoat clear, airbrush your rivets, and nose art. Then clear the whole shabang..
Are you looking to mimic a WWII bomber or just depict them in a scene?[/quote]
I was going to mimic a specific bomber. My uncle was a tail gunner in a 'flying fortress' in ww2. He's actually in the book "Greatest Generation" on p.47. Digging through old family pics right now, trying to find to find a good view of the nose art.
Grandpa was 82nd, but All American cant compete with T&A when it comes to a bike scheme.
