Default 17 vs 16 inch front wheel

My CBR900RR has a 16 inch wheel on the front. I have noticed that a lot of people switch these over to 17 inch wheels from the F4i. My question is this. What does having the larger front wheel on the front get you performance wise? I want to know what will I gain from this? Thank you all in advance for your help?

I believe it will affect the steering geometry. I had a few friends back in the day that had switched to the 17inch wheels and liked it.

a 17" wheele will also give you a slightly larger footprint

Tire selection is another factor.
