Default Daytona 900 running problems

Hi!

Newbie here with a 1994 Daytona 900. Great bike apart from a small running problem which has me baffled. It runs absolutely fine apart from when the throttle is held open at around 7000 revs at which point the bike seems to lose fuel and slowly cuts down to either run on one if I'm lucky or to completely cut out. When working it up and down the box, there are no problems whatsoever - literally just when sitting at higher speeds on motorways etc.

So far, I've checked all the pipes from the tank and the tap. I've also replaced the vacuum pipe as the old one seemed to tend to go soft but nothing has done any good so far.

Has anyone experienced similar problems or can advise as to the next steps to fault finding? I've tried to book in for a dyno diagnostic but cant get it until the end of May!

Many thanks in advance.

I dont know if you're on a Triumph Daytona 900 or something else... but if it's a Triumph, they had some ground block problems when they first started back up. First you need to have someone who knows what they are doing check your carbs and vacuum lines out, then put a scope on your plug wires to see if they are losing power around 7k. Knowing whether you're losing fuel or spark will help point you in the right direction on what the real issue is. Just know that parts aren't super-available for the T3 series Triumphs anymore, and that there were electrical issues clear into the T5 and 955i series bikes in the late 90's. Wiring harnesses and ground blocks were the most notable of 'known problems', but you could just have an anomolie electrical issue, or your carbs may just need cleaned. No easy way to diagnose over a website.

Thanks to everyone for responding. I know it's hard if not impossible to diagnose over the internet but I wondered if it was a known problem with these things.

Carbs were stripped out last night and found some very peculiar fluff in the pipes! Yes, you read right - fluff. God only knows how that got in there or even what it is but there was a fair bit cleaned out. Fingers crossed this was The Problem. I'm amazed the bike ran at all with all that crap in there.

Wish me luck!
