Making my aftermarket exhaust louder!
so, a couple weekends ago, i took off the can on my exhaust, to have open pipes, LOVED the sound, but bike ran like crap, and couldent find a way to fix the problem.
so i figure if i can free up the can, maybe that will be the better way to go to get more sound, but not kill power/make the bike run bad
ive seen pix, and read about how to make stock cans louder, is it the same way with after market?

Sportbike: chromed out TURBO VESPA w/NOS & a 12-bar, and strobes!!!
doesn't shortening the can, like a lot of stunters do (though for other reasons), make the exhaust louder?
try a search for "shorties cans"

i thought of this too, this guy at the my stealership thats a local stunter sugested a shorty canfrom a offroad bike.....butdunno if i can find the right size for my pipe.
also, i thought about buying the same pipe as mine, and gutting it, and cutting it in half....but maybe that would be a lil much, considering i have NO idea what it would sound like!

Gut it, put it on and try it... then start cutting. However, exhausts are the length/size they are, for a reason. Several articles on the science of tuning will explain why.

thats why im looking to buy someones wrecked/scrached up pipes and try it out, that way i dont have a fucked up can on my bike, that makes the bike run like crap
im just trying to get taht LOUD open exhaust sound,, without losing all the back pressure/killing my bike
im lookin at pipes, but i need one that has a 2-21/2 opening to slip onto what i have now, its 2 1/2 opening from the headers, but i could clap it down to 2inch.....

Sportbike: too many to list
I dont know what can you have now but the shortest hindle is 16"
so start there and cut off 2 inches at a time.
Cant be that hard to do for you.

hey hybrid, always glad to see you in my threads!
i have a vance&hines exhaust, not many pipes made for my bike, and all the ones i found on e-bay, woldent work (tubes bent in wrong way) or cost to much
im trying to find another vance and hines, so i can just slip it on, and do what i want.
but if i were to do it to the can i have now, would i just remove ALL the innerd's of the can? or just cut them along with the hole can itself?
a smaller can would look kinda cool too.
also, would an offroad dirt bike can work?
all the ones ive found so far have tiny midpipes, so there not going to work with my headers, the smallest i think i can clap down the opening is to 2inchs, its 2 1/2inch right now (see picture)

yea, i thought of prying them off, but that would just make a hole that i couldent get another rivit in, then that would make the can even louder prob....
ive never even seen a rivit gun used, so im not sure if it has to have a hole drilled to the right size of the rivit, or if the rivit gun makes the hole.
thats why i didetn want to just jump into this lil project
if i can figure out the rivit gun thing, then id go ahead and start hacking my can apart.
even if i fucked up,, and made it sound like crap, ill do it lil by lil, test ride the bike and make surei ts not going to run bad.....
im thinking if i take out ALL the baffle/innerds, and cut the can in calf, or even to 1/4th of the size, it should keep the back pressure, seeing as the outlet from the can is pretty small........
imma go take pix of the can so you guys can see what i mean
