Built my own undertail for my ZX-6RR
I've been wanting to get rid of my stock rear signals, and picked up these nice little ones today. I thought I could just unbolt the stockers from the plastic side pieces and bolt these in, but the stock mounting system is totally different so I had to get creative. I suppose I could have just bought an undertail kit, but I'm cheap and own a fabrication shop so I just made it myself. I wasn't really planning on getting rid of all the fender crap, but it just ended up being simpler. I started taking the bike apart and figured out how to mount everything with a nice simple bracket, even reused all the stock hardware and the stock lisence plate bracket. I just took a piece of angle iron, drilled 2 holes in the top to go onto the studs on the muffler, and 2 on the back to bolt the plate bracket to. I then welded a couple tabs onto the ends of the angle iron with holes for the new signals. Since I have a tail bag on the bike a lot I wanted to keep the little hooks that are under the muffler, so I just cut that bracket in half and bolted them back on. Worked out pretty nicely if I do say so myself, and it only cost me $15.99 for the signals.

I mostly do offroad stuff. Primarily competition rockcrawling stuff lately. It is nice to have all the tools and materials around for little things like this though. Its funny how a job like this is really simple when you have a welder and a grinder, but next to impossible if you dont. Built my own rear stand too. I'll probably build a front stand too when my new tires come in.

looks good. I ditched my stock set-up too. It was too bulky. I went with a clear alternatives integrator kit and it turned out nicely.

Welcome to SBN (a little late - sorry). Good looking work. Funny how the 4x4 & sportbike worlds are starting to mesh.
