Default silverstars??

So I'm thinking about picking up a silverstar for the ninja since the headlight and everything is off right now. But to change the bulb it's a real pain in the ass and i've been hearing that their longevity is maybe not as good as it could be. Any body with these that can testify to them lasting a while? I think the website said 150 life hours?!

You don't get something for nothing. But the something is worth it.

haven't hear anything bad about them, but i could be that people keep touching the bulb.....that reduces the longevity severely.

He's right, wear gloves when you install halogen bulbs. the oil from your hands will drastically reduce life....

You pretty much have to take off the upper fairings to get at the back part of the head light. Or even if you could keep them mostly bolted on the extra hassle to work around the cluster wouldn't be worth it.

Silverstars are crap. I used them in my car and 1 of them died in 6 months, the other is still good but useless. FYI any bulb you put in is not gonna be brighter than stock if it has a colored coating on it.

I really like the Silverstars I have in my bike and car. However, for some reason the Silverstars fog light bulbs I put in my car both died within 6 months. And I hardly ever used them unless it was foggy/raining, unlike most tards on the road.

I just remembered - the Silverstars I put in my bike were fine, but they didn't last too long, either.
I replaced them with some silly expensive PIAA lamps. Doh!

silverstars were made not to last as long as the OEM bulbs, because of that blue coating at the tip. I personally use Osram Silverstars (the European version) in my car, and they are bright white, without the gay blue US coating.

hmmmmm....i installed my silverstars six months ago, and usually run the high beams all the time (both bulbs on). They seems fine, so im curious if they will start to fade soon.

For those whose silverstars died, did they fade out like most headlights or simply burn out one day?

I just ordered the Osram Silverstar Euro version H4 bulb. These don't have the blue coating and are much brighter and have a longer life. I paid $30 for two of them including shipping. I hope to have them today, and will install tonight before a ride in the morning.

I had two burn out quickly. Turns out it was a regulator problem. About two weeks later it fried. The third has been in there for over 2 years, which seems good enough to me.

Changing to the Silverstar turned a lighting problem into a non-issue. It's not as good as the HIDs on my cars, but its good enough for me to consider the problem solved.

All of my bikes get Silverstars. But I use the motorcycle specific one, sold individually and labeled for MCs. I don't know if that makes any diff.

I've had silverstar bulbs in all my cars/trucks since they were put on shelves. Though I used to never own a car more than a year. My current vehicle is a 2000 Durango and I put silverstar bulbs in it the same week I bought it, which was almost 2 years ago and they are still going strong.

Just make sure the wattage on the bulb doesn't exceed that of what the wires can handle, or you'll be replacing the bulb only after a few hours

Not an issue with Silverstars.
