Default Strengthening alum. sprocket?

I bought my 520 kit and didn't realize the rear sprocket included was aluminum...

I know how fast aluminum sprockets wear...is there any fairly common treatment that can be done to them to strengthen the metal? Some sort of plating, or cryo-treating? Just curious...I like the aluminum, but it's looking like it'll last me all of about 4 months as it sits...

I don't think cryo is going to strengthen the aluminum like your wanting it to do, cryo realigns the molecular structure making the whole piece stronger by eliminating stress areas within the metal itself. Plus, most of your aluminums are heat treated to a certain hardness already.

If cryo does do anything I'd be surprised and would like to hear from someone who may of tried it on a sprocket and if it increased wear resistance.

Keep the proper slack in the chain........a little too much is better than just a tiny bit not enough.

Keep your chain clean and lubed. Should last about 10-15K if you dont kick its ass................

When it wears out.........get a steel.

I'll keep it close to the outer limit on slack when I get it on..... I won't be kicking its ass that's for sure, my buddy makes fun of me because I don't ride like an idiot like everyone else around here...I've gotten enough expensive tickets...I'll keep it in my pants for a while I think
