Default Frame slider installation..this is BULLSHIT!

I ordered some vortex frame sliders for my '04 636 and got em in.....went to put them on....left side no problem....right side...BIG problem. They are 2 piece sliders(base and puck) and have a smaller base for the right side cuz the spot on the frame sticks out a bit further. Now for the problem. The bolt there not only has a locking washer nut thing(which i got loose no problem-just the fact that it's different from the left side) and the damn bolt doesn't even look like the same size....it's way thicker. well took it to some buddies down at a local dealer...turns out this is some demented device that is basically a MOTOR MOUNT!! 636 owners go take a look at your bike, you'll see what i'm talking about. Now i don't know what to do, i'd have to drop the motor just to put the damn right side frame slider in! Not worth it for $50 sliders!!! I'm so pisst off! What should i do? I want the sliders on my bike, but i'm not paying a huge bill to have em put on....is there a way around this?

sorry to say this but 50 bucks for sliders and the little bit it will cost to get them on is nothing compared to what is saves when you throw your bike down. One of the panels on that thing is 500 bucks so why bitch. if it doesnt seem right call vortex and ask what the deal is.

im not following why would u have to drop the motor to put the slider on u should just be able to take the motor mount bolt out and replace it with the bold given with the sliders

Ever since Ive seen a bike with sliders go down and started flipping end over end because the slidergot caught on a piece of uneven pavement I refuse to put them on my bike. Id rather replace a panel then everything else..

IMO, worth the risk if you do alot of stunting at low speeds.. Anything involving a a good speed like on a highway or something they would do more damage then good.

thats just retarded, I have seen bikes hook the foot peg and do the same, chances are the frame sliders work out for the better 98% of the time. Why not have em? Cant be any worse off.

Well i guess he reaslized there are plenty of other bolts holding the motor in . Now benifits of frame slider , high speed the do help quite a bit , with or without the slider at speed there is a good chance the bike will tumble , but if it doesnt , without the slider youll probably be looking at a lot more than a fairing

I can't see there being much left of a bike that is downed at high speeds no matter what it is sliding on hehe

At least the bike will not put all of it's weight on your leg. A fuel tank slapping your knee against pavement sounds painful.

Was it a plastic slider or one of theses metal ended sliders?

I have dropped bikes at 100 mph on the track picked it up and continued.
I have also dropped them at 35 to 45 mph and they flipped and had to be loaded on the trailer in pieces.
Just luck of the draw I guess.
I will always have them!

I watched a guy drop a new GSXR (I dont what size) he had a chewed up slider, broken mirror, and riped glove. now I have sliders on my bike (much cheaper than $400 plastic.

i have heard this happening a lot with aluminum sliders cause they will grab the road instead of sliding like the plastic will do.

At least you all can put sliders on your bike. Nobody makes sliders for the FZR.
