Default 520 conversion kit

Hello everyone I was wondering if any of you guys have done this mod to your bike yet. I'm trying to figure out what the plus and minuses are to doing a 1- in the front and 2+ in the rear I'm pretty sure thats what a 520 conversion is. I also know that ill need a new chain.

Thanks for your replies in advance!!

-1/+2 means -1 tooth on the front, +2 teeth on the back. the 520 refers to the chain size, or pitch. you always wanna do new sprockets with a new chain, so they last longer. only use a rivet link....i had a master clip fall of mid ride.

i did 520 on the F4i and also did a gear change. worked out well. Let me know if you need a hand. Hardest part is the front sprocket. My buddy mike has a chain tool if you don't have one.
matt.

whats good about the 520 chain conversion (and which is WHY people do it) is becuase it is lighter. much lighter actually. This is what draws the majority of people to it.

less rotating mass = quicker ability to move

while you motor obviously wont make more power, the engine will be able to turn all of your chain drive components easier with the 520 set up. I hope to do a 520 conversion one day lol

yeah, ive been reading of them a bit recently. more tensile strength is definitley a good thing on a torquey bike.

as everyone has said the 520 is the chain size, its thinner than the factory chain, -1/+2 refers to going down 1 tooth up front and the +2 means you add 2 teeth to the rear, this gearing change gets you into the sweet spot of the motors power, it raises cruise RPM and lowers top speed as well. a 520 conversion with -1/+2 gearing was one of my first mods on my R6, I absolutely love it! if you do this go with either Renthal or AFAM sprockets and the very strong DID ERV3, Miguel be sure you go with a "rivet link" style master link, I have a rivet tool as well

I never changed chain size but I did go -1 front +2 rear. I am going to try -1 +1 in the back next time and make it a little more easy on the RPMs
