Spoiled brat! I know tons of people like the aformentioned and they never seem to amount to anything as their work ethic is shot to hell.
I agree. He might be a nice kid but, sounds like he wants eveything for free. A Ford Excursion for a high school kid? HA! His Explorer eats gas? HA! Why the hell did Ford quit making the Excursion? It's a GAS HOG and people stoped buying it. Why in the hell does a high school kid need a Ford Excursion anyway? Tell him to quit crying, quit at least 3 jobs, have a social life, be a teenager for heavens sake (while he still can), and stop trying to take advantage of his parents, they won't be here forever.
I think parents should help out IF they can, but to just to give, that's another story. If he would take some of that hard earned money he says he is putting in the bank and use it for some of these things he might appriciate it more.
Tell him that he is lucky to be in the posistion he is in. My dad died when I was 10 and mom died when I was 23. I had to learn to live on my own weather I liked it or not. Ask him what would he do if his parents dids suddanly. He might just look at things differently.
Ask your friend what he would do if his parents asked HIM to support THEIR fun time. I'm bettin' he'd sh*t his knickers and say something along the lines of, "Oh no, if they wanna have fun, let THEM afford it." After which, you say, "Well, how much you wanna bet that they feel the same towards you?"
As for the vehicle situation, snigg and the rest of the guys hit the bullseye on that. He thinks the Explorer sucks fuel? Ha!
He sounds like a good kid, college and all, but honestly, he needs to be a teen while he can (I forgot who already posted that point, but +1 to them!) and stop working so damned much and enjoy these last few months of high school. He won't get the chance again to do so and should take advantage of this time while he can.
Finally, tell him to stop whining about the way things are going. He bitches about his parents not paying for anything? WTF is he gonna do when they die? No offense dude, but your buddy sounds like he needs a foot in the ass. Life is hard, he's gotta grasp this...the sooner, the better. Besides, why don't you try to convince him to spend that 25k for the Excursion on a coupla new sportbikes? May I suggest the CBR1000RR? Or perhaps a Gix1k?

his parents should sell his explorer, and tell him to spend some of his savings on a used car that gets better gas mileage, sounds like he needs to quit posing, and get his own life.

When I was in High School I was fortinate enough that my father had a service truck so I was able to take his 86 Chevy Truck to work and school. It wasnt the greatest looking truck but my dad was kind enough to trust me with it and allowed me to use it when ever I wanted to. My parents were always there to help me out as much as they could but there were things that they didnt get for me and made me work for it. Witch I think made me a better and more responsible person. I cannot stand those kids that have mommy and daddy buy them everything that they through a fit about. Even today I know of people that still say well my mom and dad will get that for me and they are in their 20's
The gas cost too much, well get rid of the Explorer and get a compact car to get around in and that will help there. No, he does not need a bigger more expensive truck. That is stupid. No, his parents should not pay for gas. He is lucky he has the Explorer to drive. Hell, I have been working since I was 16 yrs old and just now getting to a place in life where I can have the cars, bikes and other things in life withour having to struggle. That is part of growing up, parents now days give in to their kids, everything is about what they have, not how they earned it.
My parents gave me a used 79 Nova when I was young, told me they will pay ins. and that was it. All the repairs, gas, tires and everythimg else was for me to pay for since I was the one driving it. Yeah, I ragged it a bit going fast and doing burn outs, that is what kids do, but I also replaced the tires and had engine work done when needed. I even had to pay to have the transmission rebuilt because of something stupid I did.
Tell you friend to stop whining, stop expecting his parents to do for him, they will be gone one day and to give up a few of them part times for more socail life.
What's gonna happen when it is time to be on his own and he is working, but just don't make enough money to have the new, latest car they come out with, go to his parents who are now living off thier retirement???
OK, SHORT amd NOT so SWEET - F'IN GROW UP and count your blessings, for people who work 10 times harder than he does now still don't have what he does.
Sorry, for the rant, I have seen these kinds of kids and they piss me off everytime complaining about something they don't have when there are so many doing without some of the basic stuff, nevermind the nice extras of life.
