Default Harley Davdison expands into the Indian market

Harley Davidson in India by December 2009; Assembly lines by 2011 | Indian Autos blog

It should get interesting if the article is true and they start assembly in India to avoid the import taxes. I can see HD owners having a shit fit if any bikes come state side. God forbid they start manufacturing and send parts state side.

Either way its interesting to see what the HD fans have to say about it.

What most people don't know... They already do! It's not American made, it's American assembled.

Most here also probably aren't visiting the HD stores either, but if they did they might take notice of all the shinny chrome accessories Harley has hanging on the walls that are made in ...??? ...yep ...CHINA.

Damn I had no idea. I figured some stuff was but the majority was American made. Any idea what exactly or which major components are shipped in?

The only way to see exactly how much of it is really made somewhere outside of the United States, is to take one apart and try to find the "Made in ..." Stamp...

Buell was so called American motorcycle. Even though they ran a ad, pointing to different parts of there bike and where they were made. And only one thing was made in the USA, the frame if I'm not mistaken.

Harley moved into Indian's market in 1953 when the latter went bankrupt

HD koolaid drinkers would never bitch, they're already too brainwashed to ever believe anything other than 100% American made right here in the good ole USA.

When it comes to vehicles, Ford tends to have the highest percentage of North American parts content.

Not sure about motorcycles, specifically.

I guess the image will be shattered. Oh well. Maybe the damn things will come down to a realistic price.

Clearly you've never shopped model vs. model using HD and any other manufacturer... their prices are quite comparable, and their resale blows all the competition away

I've posted comparisons before.

Their closest competitor in terms of product is Yamaha (Star).

2010 Star Stratoliner S - $17,290
2010 H-D Road King Classic - $17,999

2010 Star Raider S - $14,790
2010 H-D Dyna Wide Glide - $14,499

How about cheap and around 900cc?

2010 Star V Star 950 - $8,090
2010 H-D Sportster 883 Low - $6,999
