Default Verizon Droid

So this new phone came out today and i'm curious about a few things considering i'm not a verizon customer.

i went to the verizon wireless website and built a plan with 900 minutes, and unlimited everything else but what GIVES with charging me $20 for unlimited texts and another $45 for unlimited data?! Verizon doesn't bundle these two "categories" together? I have t-mobile but i've been debating switching over for the better service but i'm not a fan of these charges for text and for unlimited data. they cap it at 5000 to boot for $20 beans a month!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Moreover, if anyone has any experience "haggling" verizon customer service that would help me even more. i was considering going to the store or calling customer service and seeing what they would do about the prices considering i'd be switching to verizon from another carrier.

Any verizon smartphone including Blackberry is charged $30 bucks extra for the data plan which would be unlimited email, text, and data in addition to your current voice plan.

Like I pay $79.00 plus $30 bucks for 900 minutes and unlimited data for my BB pearl. Minus the employee discounts I get on BOTH voice and FEATURES (i.e. data plan).

So both the Droid and Stom2(or any other) will include this charge. Not to be demeaning but you pay for what you get. You have 5000 minutes for $20 bucks a month....but you're on T-Moblie....that explains all.

If you want to haggle go ahead. It's a cell phone however...not a new car or bike or home or big expenditure that requires a sort of negoation. (spell me the life is all negotiation thing).

TMO doesn't bundle them together either, that I've seen anyway.

I don't think they haggle..Verizon will cost more...some find the service better. Luckily I am not one of them

Verizon wouldn't listen to a thing I had to say/ask for to keep me after being with them for 5 years, so I switched to t-mobile. Good luck haggling. And I was working on a family plan not just a single line.

We've had one in the office for a month or so. Nice phone!

The biggest problem with all the Android phones to date has been that they are complete huge bricks. Nice to see Verizon get one out in a manageable frame. I hope there are more to follow.

my experience with T-mobile, their coverage, and their customer service over the years have been nothing but good. i won't say great, i won't say bad, but good is just right.. we've had the service since it was Voicestream and have managed to get quite a few things upgraded for little or no payment. once i got wifi on my first curve service and reliability have gone up.. unfortunately there's an issue with going from UMA to EDGE and i drop phone calls like that.

i'm a firm believer that you can haggle ANYTHING.

Verizon has good service, but is anyone else uncomfortable with all this news about smartphones sending data back to the company and higher prices for contract termination? Verizon's been a pretty good service, but at the end of my contract I'm cancelling and getting a pre-paid.

One thing to remember is that verizon is changing the early terminations fees for the smart phones to $350. I have been with them since day one and I am done! Shitty phone, shitty service and I'm finding the prepaids my be the better way to go.

I'm happy with my G1 and plan. The mytouch is pretty slim, but I like the qwerty keypad on my G1.
