Hey, I didn't investigate the officers involved in that case, and I wasn't on any jury or panel that found the 2 guilty of wrongdoing.
I'm simply stating cops always back each other up no matter what, and in that case, they were wrong, but no LEOs that commented on it (that I heard of) before the facts came out ever once said, "You know, that story sounds a little suspect, they might have been in the wrong, but we'll see".
Every comment I read or heard from LEOs was right along the lines of what you're saying.
"You don't know what we do, you don't know the facts, I'm sure they had their reasons" etc.
That's why there's a wedge between civilians and law enforcement.

That is because when everyone sees something that "shocks the senses" as they say, automatically jump to the gun that because it was the police then they were in the wrong. Police that are on this board to try point things out an instantly all we are doing is trying to defend another cop. As many of the cops on this board has said......wait until all the FACTS are in before automatically assigning blame to anyone...even the suspected. If the cops are in the wrong, then they should swing for it just like anyone else.

As for driving a wedge in between in police and the citizens......the citizens do this and it starts at a very young age! I don't know how many times I have heard parents out in public say to their kid "if you don't act right that cop over there is going to take you to jail". And as kids get older and older they witness their parent getting a ticket or something and instantly they hear the parent bitching because the cop caught them breaking a traffic law or something and it just further ingrains that fear/hate of the police.

I find busting down a 92 year old womans front door then killing her when she tries to defend herself to be a very large "shock to the senses".
I find defending that action to be even more shocking.
I am (when not on my ZX10) a pretty law abiding person. I'd wager the old woman was ,too.
The fact that someone, even the police with a warrant (that might have lied to obtain), can bust down my front door and shoot me in my "castle" if I try to defend myself and family, as in that case, certainly makes me feel a little uneasy around police.

Would it still shock the senses if it had been the drug dealer they were there to serve the warrant on that shot at the cops and was subsequently killed in that exchange? I am just trying to figure out if the part that shocks the senses is the act itself or the age and gender of the person that died.

I am not a big fan of search warrants on situations like this but the fact of the matter is.....search warrants are a necessary evil.

This is a case that I find shocks the senses: Several years ago a guy escaped from a prison. He hides in a parking garage and when an elderly goes to her car he kidnaps here at knife point and rapes her multiple times over the course of several hours. When he was done he stabs her 30 some odd times killing her. It was found out that the lady was a virgin at the time of the attack. He was caught by police shortly after wards and was asked why he killed her. The guy's response "because she called me son". When it goes to court the State Of Tenn. asked for the death penalty and the jurors refused to convict for the death penalty citing that the suspect's actions against the elderly women DID NOT shock the senses. WTF???

It was a "no-knock" warrant, too.
No arguement with me that the justice system is fucked. But my point here is, police kicked in an old lady's door (with a no-knock warrant), turns out said old lady has a gun for protection and she uses it, not knowing who is breaking down her door.
The police open fire and kill her.
Point-not one officer publicly said that something didn't jibe, it took public outcry to dig deeper and discover the facts. Facts that might not have come to light if the public and the womans family didn't make a huge stink about it.

You bring up some good points. If I remember correctly they kicked the door in on a warrant obtained from a CI that later recanted saying the cops forced him to saying he bought dope there. Cops were sitting on the house as the woman's grandson was suspected of selling dope and they caught the CI coming out of the house and in poss of the dope. They leave and get a warrant and come back to serve it not knowing that the grandson had left. They kick on the door on a no knock and the grandmother fires he gun down the hallway at the officers and they returned fire.

Just like the woman didn't know who the people kicking the door in was....the cops didn't know who the person shooting at them down the hallway was either. I don't know of too many people that are getting shot are going to stop and ask age and gender in the middle of it.

And what some may see as officers on SBN as "covering" for other officers....I see some of it being giving a different outlook based on knowing the ins and outs of law enforcement.
