I wanted a way to carry cold water without a hydrating bag sweating and dripping all over me and my backpack.
Got a $10.60 roll of Reflectix, Waterproof aluminum insulating tape, and strip of velcro from Home Depot.
Reflectix is used as house/RV wrap and is essentially a layer bubble wrap sandwiched between sheets of aluminum. I'm not versed in insulating specs but I believe its an R11 rating which is supposedly good for its thickness.
Have an Ogio no-drag pack with the Ogio reservoir. Layed out on the Reflectix fully filled to ballpark a size.
Next taped up the bottom edge and put extra reinforcements in the corner.
Flip it inside out so the tape seam is now on the inside. Double tape the bottom edge again.
Cut the porthole for the drink tube and hanger clip. Reinforce with tape.
Prefold a length of tape to seal up the side seam from the inside.
Press the edges together and double seal the outside edge and reinforce the corner.
Apply velcro so the top has a double roll as an air barrier.
I filled the bag with ice and water last night at around 9PM. Brought it to work today to see how it would fare. Its 6:30 and there is still ice, though most of the bulk has melted.
does that tape hold very well?
i would think the bag still would sweat a little causing the tape to peel off?
if not i might give this a try
thanks for posting this up

The bag is warm to the touch, and only the doulble taped seams are slightly cool to the touch. At the end of the day there was moisture in the bottom of the back, but not even enough that would drip out.
The tape is made by Reflectix as well and is waterproof metal insulating tape.
Just a thought....take a bottle of vodka, place in freezer over night.
While waiting for vodka to chill to below zero temperatures make one of these little socks. Take bottle out of freezer place in sock....intant drinks all day long!
Those would be for the guy who gets his oil and filter changed at the dealer.
if i could get the dealer to do ten oil changes for the price of one at home, hell yes i would take the bike in. don't be sad that you spent an excessive amount of time and money to make a padded envelope, at least yours is shiny.

Does the cover also block out the "messages" from outer space?
Nice.

The silver lining gives a superior insulating rating over your bubble-wrap envelope. Just doing a project right and taking care to make it done well.

6 months and that is all you got?
when the bladder is in your bag there is no light to reflect. it could be any color or finish, there will be no radiant heat transfer, just conductive.
sorry
