Does anyone else find fault in these numbers? At 16 million barrels a day, you are looking at close to 6 billion barrels a year, with only 200 somewhat barrels left in SA (do not forget the oil OTHER countries consume from their stockpile) that would leave us high and dry within our (at least what would be mine) children's lifetime.
Within 50 years (I personally think in 25 years), we won't need oil anymore. You won't be able to give it away. With the way that technology has been developing, we will have a cleaner, longer lasting and cheaper energy source that will surpass oil. The kids will be fine.

Is that so?
Uhmm how will you make tires and plastics?

Too bad almost everything you eat and buy owes itself to oil. Nothing can compare to oil in return on investment. We're not even close to no longer requiring oil.

So whats your Alternative? For fuel we could have done away with it years ago.
For heating, one could also argue its not necissary.
For plastics, or Rubber, what? What is the replacement? And would that replacement really benefit us at all?
So far Methenal has been a joke, with some forms actually Emitting more greenhouse gases. not to mention it takes up valuable farmland
The alternative is nuclear energy and electric cars. As far as tires and plastics go you could continue using oil to make these and other products if we make the switch in the next 25 years. Long term we could use synthetic substances to make tires and plastics.

Exactly, plus coal of we can develop economically viable clean coal technologies (which, compared to the cost of nuclear, is probably viable). Long long term, it'll be nuclear fusion or solar, but those are both a long ways off from large scale reality.
