Default Florida Residents - A Weather Question, please

Dear Florida Folks,

I'm considering taking my son to the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area this summer for vacation. It looks like the best time I'll have available due to work projects might not be until the first or second week of August. I've been to Florida many times in the past, but it's always been in the May-July timeframe. The weather then has always been very cooperative. However, I'm a little unsure of what to expect in August.

I know it will be hot, that's a given. My main concern is rain and or hurricane season. Is August too late to plan a trip to your lovely state? What type of weather should I expect? Would you recommend a trip that time of year to your friends? If not, when would you say is the 'best' time, weather-wise, for a tourist to come down and enjoy Florida?

Any insights, suggestions, tips, etc. you can pass along will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Man......that's a hell of a question.... I've lived here most of my life and hell, even half the weather forecasts I hear lately wind up being wrong anyways. I'd just keep an eye on the hurricane tracking once the season gets into swing....might hint at the duration and severity of the season in the later months.

Just my opinion, probably August or September would be a good bet.....I've never really kept track, but they seem to be a little more predictable with the weather. September probably moreso, being further past the hurricane season.....might start getting cooler towards the end of the month.

Just pack diversely, and bring mosquito spray if it winds up humid...the 'skeeters will eat you alive otherwise.

Expect rain late in the day, early, whenever, until hurricane season is over. That's what I remember...

August is the most humid month of the year, at least in Central Fla. June would probably be a little more enjoyable.

Typically there are afternoon thunderstorms just about every day from mid-June through August. But it shouldn't interfere with your vacation. Just plan your outdoor time around it.

Destin/Ft Walton Bch is a great location. the beaches and sunsets are great. I am through there to Pensacola about every week. The weather will be hot and humid. Expect mid 90's during the day with 80's at night. The wind from the west can blow pretty good at night. Scattered thunderstorms boil up most afternoons as hurricane season is starting to ramp up. Hope you enjoy your stay
