I've been keeping a little mum about a lot of this but I have to say that you would feel very different if you or your family was the one that got injured or killed because of a drunk driver.

Check out this link about the impact of a drunk driver on someone's life...

Little off topic, did anyone notice: "In just the first eleven months of this year" ...huh?

And that's the problem w/ the minority of people to whom this happens. They get so emotionally enraged it's basically fuck the Constitution and fuck your freedom's time.

I'll stand by what I said, it's wrong to fuck w/ everybody for the sake of a few (regardless of the tragedy du jour).

No I don't feel "very different" about it. I do agree that drunk driving should be illegal, and people should be punished for it. I *don't* agree that the enforcement procedures should include stopping people without probable cause. If an officer sees someone driving badly enough to reasonably suspect impairment, then fine - pull him over. If you see someone driving badly enough to reasonably suspect impairment, then fine - call in a report. Otherwise, let people go about their own business in peace.

Yeah, like the Brady bill and I think you would add the Patriot act.

No, I wouldn't. I'd feel exactly as I do now, which is that driving while under the influence of x (including cellphones) should result in the actual loss of driving ability, and immediate culpability in civil suits. Many drunk driving accidents are multiple offenders that keep being allowed back on the road.

But no - if you think the Constitution is worth more than "just a piece of paper", then you better be willing to accept the sacrifices necessary in a society following it. I do.

I have had family injured by drunk drivers and I still do NOT support roadblocks, except under exigent circumstances: Prison break, Bank Robbery, etc...

Dude that is just silly and uneducated of you, since rubbernecking is the number one cause of accidents then everyone should have to wear a blinder all billboards should be removed, all shiney paintjobs gone, no more mags to look at, all bikes should be the same, women should all wear ankle length dresses, all buildings should be painted grey. damn this isnt sounding to much like America to me.

Id be pissed if my family was killed no matter what, just as pissed if it was some bitch yelling at the kids in the back of her car, or worse yet, some old person that shouldnt be on the goddamn road in the first place.
people are running completly on emotions. no people shouldnt be running around driving drunk, but then our drinking laws really dont address that problem they merely look for a low enough blood intoxication level so they can make more money.

It's a natural and predicable reaction. It's part of the human paradigm. But I'm not a psychologist.

I almost guarantee renewed debate on our gun laws after the Omaha Mall murderous rampage.

Wait until some prominent Senator is killed by a drunk driver, or a prominent Senator kills somebody via drunk driving... wait. Didn't that happen already?
